Forum Rules and Terms of Service
LinuxSat Forum Terms of Service & Community Guidelines
Welcome to LinuxSat! To maintain a respectful, productive, and legally compliant community, all users must adhere to these rules. By registering or using this service, you agree to these terms.
1. General Community Standards
- English Language Requirement: All posts in the main forum must be in English. Non-English discussions are permitted only in designated subforums.
- Respectful Conduct: Engage in good faith. Insults, harassment, trolling (inflammatory posts intended to provoke), or false claims are strictly prohibited.
- No Spam/Unrelated Content: Avoid off-topic posts, repetitive content, or commercial promotion.
2. Member Responsibilities
As a member, you agree NOT to:
- Post Illegal/Infringing Content: Includes sharing copyrighted material or promoting illegal activities without explicit rights-holder permission.
- Duplicate Posts: Use the Search Function before creating topics. Double-posting/cross-posting is prohibited.
- Bump Threads: Do not revive threads within 48 hours of the last reply.
- Create Multiple Accounts: Duplicate accounts face permanent bans. For login issues, contact support via the Contact Page.
- Misuse PMs/Shoutbox:
- Do not redirect users to PMs for support requests.
- No promoting external platforms for forum discussions.
- Shoutbox is not for technical questions—keep discussions public.
- Post "Thank You" Replies: Use the Reaction Button (👍) instead. Gratitude posts will be deleted.
- Use Disruptive Signatures: No external links (except non-commercial personal sites), heavy media, or slow-loading elements. Violations result in removal.
3. Content Moderation & Liability
- No Guarantees: Content/downloads/advice are used at your own risk. LinuxSat is not liable for damages or legal consequences.
- Moderator Authority: Moderators may remove/edit violating content without notice. Removal requests are reviewed at our discretion.
- Reporting Illegal Activity: LinuxSat actively monitors and removes illegal content. Use the Report Button for violations.
4. Intellectual Property & Licensing
- User Content License: By posting, you grant LinuxSat a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use/modify your content. You retain ownership.
- Third-Party Content: Ensure you have rights to share external material. Unauthorized posts will be removed.
5. Account Management
- Termination: Accounts may be suspended/banned for violations without explanation.
- Account Deletion: Navigate to User Control Panel > Account > Delete Account.
6. Amendments
These terms may be updated anytime. Continued use constitutes acceptance of changes.
Forum Collaboration & Intellectual Property Rules
1. Ownership and Licensing
- Clear Ownership: Original work (code/designs/text) remains the creator's property unless transferred in writing.
- Licensing:
- Specify license (e.g., MIT, GPL) or state "All Rights Reserved."
- Default: All Rights Reserved if undeclared.
2. Collaborative Projects
- Written Agreements Required: Outline ownership/licensing terms before collaborating (see template below).
- Documentation: Keep records of permissions in forum DMs or commit logs.
3. Use of Others’ Work
- Permission Required: No use/modification/redistribution without consent.
- Attribution: Credit creators prominently if permitted (e.g., "Includes code by [User]").
- Derivative Works: Modifications require permission and must follow original licensing.
4. Disputes and Violations
- Reporting Violations: Submit evidence (screenshots/timestamps) via Moderator PM.
- Consequences: First offense = content removal; repeat offenses = suspensions.
- False Claims: Sanctions apply for baseless accusations.
5. Project Forks and Splits
- Forking Projects: Requires original creator approval and proper credit.
- Abandoned Projects: Continue only with written consent or by removing absent members’ contributions.
6. External Platforms and Monetization
- No Redirecting Collaborations: Do not move projects externally without moderator approval.
- Monetization: Requires written agreement from all contributors.
7. Mediation and Appeals
- Mediation: Moderators resolve disputes based on evidence.
- Appeals: Submit new evidence within 7 days.
Example Collaboration Agreement: "We, [User A] and [User B], agree to collaborate on [Project Name]. [User A] retains ownership of [specific code/assets]. [User B] retains ownership of [specific designs/content]. The final project is licensed under [License Name] with credit to all contributors. Disputes resolved via forum moderation. Signed: [Usernames/Dates]"Note to Members:
