I personally managed to make similar backup like piterfree and I have same problem, nfi image backup has around 50Mb, it is flashed thru browser, of course bootloader 84d is flashed before and after, everything went without problems and on rebooting it is stuck on dhch starting point. As already explained, the STB ships with an old bootloader that had 6 slots. Octagon updated things and now there is 4 once flashed with newer images. i have no idea why anyone would need more than 4 anyways TBH, after all you can only use one at a time. here is the other multiboot mentioned: Multiboot FlashOnline by Madhouse (python2/3)

… the multiboot option was only for sd card. later this changed, and the multiboot works in receivers flash , but only 4 partitions or you could extend this +2 slots in sd card. as i know images before and after this change , could not be together, because of different bootloader and multiboot option. so you have to re-partition your sd card from bootloader (recovery menu), and than re-install images which using the new bootloader…

Have you ever updated the bootloader? Flash the bootloader the same way you would flash an image. Then flash an old version of blackhole, openpli etc. New images are too big and will consume all of the flash memory, leaving you with no space to install anything and a very slow device. If you still can`t flash via USB, try a different USB stick. Not all USB sticks are compatible with this receiver.

Ok, but which box? If it is not zgemma H7, I'm not sure that I can be helpful, for combo/twin, perhaps soon, for older H9ers not likely as it needs a special bootloader but there is enough mess with mSD expansion.... gorski is at home with these boxes.
