you get the choice if you want a fresh install , add or delete. I added and it works fine.

these boxes are good for what they were made for and that is for watching TV channels, that may or may not be available where you live, through IPTV, in this forum you can find ways to upload and use IPTV lists onto the mag 250, there is a large variety to choose from, it just takes time and a hell of a lot of patience.
-
-
when I open the box I am given the choice of, embedded portal, portal 1 and 2, go into embedded portal and there you can find all the settings.
-
remember when you save a list in note book, save as > name.m3u > all files > UTF-8 then you get a list in a format that is recognized by the MAG 250.

I think the MAG250 has to be connected to the internet for box verification before the upgrade can be downloaded, then going into settings auto download can be checked.

I started on this hobby using an analog receiver and as technology changed so did the receivers, one of the
best receivers I bought and still use is an Aston Xzena 2000, the only problem with it is the 2000 channel limit. I
have uploaded ( I hope)the three dishes that I have installed. The 1.5m fiber dish is still using the original Nokia
lnb, Nokia was the top receiver at that time. The Triax with the Stab motor is a good quality combination and
there is not a speck of rust on the dish. The 2m dish is the one that covers everything, all satellites within range. I
use stand-a-lone positioners with the dishes, the reason for that is I used a receiver with a positioner installed,
but when the receiver goes so does the positioner, the 3m dish I used for C band, it was motorized too but now it is dismantled. is there any promlem with this set-up? yes, because I
cannot get the channels that I want, as you may know only UK channels can be seen in the UK, within the
footprint, the reason for this is that people living within the UK pay for a TV licence, so why should others outside
the UK see them free? there is only one way to see UK channels if you are living outside the UK and that is by
IPTV.

a new software update came out on the 23.07.14 for the MAG250.

since joining this forum with no knowledge about anything, I have learnt if you look around there is information given about IPTV streams and how to load them on Simple TV, VLC and the Mag250. if they do not work on one they will work on the other for a period of time,

for any one who has the MAG250 and sits on the remote control and then gets the message on the screen that the box is not recognized, by unplugging the power and plugging in again and then going into services and from there doing a reboot brings things back to normal, it works just like a reset.

what I have done is copy a list into notepad on the pc, making sure it is a m3u list, then , "save as" the name can be anything, ex, test.m3u then "all files" and below the you save it as a "UFT-8 file" the file you find then will look like a music file which you can load onto a usb and place in the usb portin the front of the mag 250 and then when you go into services, media player you will see the usb shown, open it and and you will see the channel list (test.m3u) which you can open

are these channels working for anyone? all I get when loading from the USB which is shown in Home Media is "playing error" all the channels are listed, except the German file which tells me there is nothing in it
-
.m3u8 is a UTF-8 version of the M3U format [source].
.m3u files can have various encodings.can both these versions be used on the MAG250? as I did notice in this forum that only M3U had been given as an example. I found a list and it had m3u8 in it and when I tried to convert it UTF-8 it only showed up as a txt document.
-
the advantage of the MAG250 is that it is small and portable and can be used anywhere there is an internet connection. another point I have noticed what is the difference between m3u and m3u8

there are many satellites, I have a 2m motorized dish. HD receiver and a TV, I can receive 1000's of FTA channels, all I need to see them are the frequencies , they can be found every where. I have a MAG 250 and I do not know how to load the local TV channels or where to find them, also there is an IPTV agreement and many countries are part of it, there is another IPTV box on the market and it states that over 3000 channels can be viewed on it from all over the world and they are free, all you do is buy the box, why is it so difficult to find these free channels and put them on the MAG250, maybe the interest is not there at the moment?

I downloaded the lates image version 0.2.18-r3-250 Apr 11 and opening the box changed, I now have to press menu where I am given an option to go into the Embeded port, Portal 1 or System setings, opening system settings you see Network, open and you see Wired (ethernet), PPPoE and Wireless, open Wired and you find, Auto (DHCP) and Auto (DHCP), manual DNS, enter manual and there you can change the DNS. I use 8.8.8.8. as where I live some internet sites are blocked and this DNS opens them up
