Wanting to put 300GB ex laptop drive which can only be formatted as exFAT or NTFS into my VU+ Solo2. Question: will Linux be able to format the drive once it is installed or can I use the drive as it is?

Got this box from Amazon for my dad, had it 3 days and unfortunately he went into the menu system and has pressed every possible button combination you can think of and then switched it off because it did not work. I have been on the Vu+ site and downloaded "vuplus-image-vusolo2-20140421165610_usb" onto a FAT32 formatted USB stick, applied the stick to the USB port and powered up, it appears to load the files and start setting things up when I reboot but hangs on the VU+ logo screen.

Is it possible to wipe the whole thing and start again? I know very little of Linux having been a lecturer in computing which has always been Microsoft based until just before I retired.

Any help at this time would be gratefully received even if the end result is turn it into an ashtray.
