    Customised boot/reboot screens

    Instructions:

Before you flash make sure both coax cables from the dish are connected to the correct ports, as show below

cables should be diagonal as you look at them not one on top of the other and not side by side.

before u flash make sure all SD CARD/FLASH DRIVES ARE REMOVED

    To Flash...

    1) Extract the downloaded file and copy the zgemma folder to your fat32 formatted usb drive.

    2) Turn off your zgemma box using the rear on/off switch as shown above.

    3) Insert your USB pen drive in the rear port of your zgemma.

    4) Power up the box, when USB is displayed press the front power switch, the display will change to FL5H (Flash!) allow it to boot up – This should take between 3 to 10 minutes

NB If the box boots straight up without flashing it's usually down to a usb drive formatting / partition issue (please search the forum for hddguru as this has been asked loads of times!)

Once flashing is complete the box will display BOOT, turn off using the rear power switch and remove your USB drive that has the zgemma folder on it, either delete this folder on your PC or give it a quick format if you are going to use this same drive in the box permanently, alternatively remove and insert your second USB pen drive.

    Steps to take after flashing....

    1) Initialise your USB pen drive or SDCARD .....(BLUE Button, scroll down to Hardisk, Initialisation) then (Convert Ext3 to Ext4)

    2) Now check it's mounted.... (Mounts, Device Manager, GREEN Button, BLUE Button, Exit on remote then RED button)

    4) If your box is a Zgemma h.2S and you have two cables coming from your sat dish skip to 5).

If you have a Zgemma HS, H2H or H2s you need to reconfigure tuner B otherwise you will get a tuner lock error on the next step. To do this press BLUE then go to tuner setup, tuner configuration - if you have a hS or you're running a h2S with one cable from the dish set tuner B to none, if you have a H2H/H2S set your second tuner here.

    5) Scan for channels...... (go and make a coffee this takes a while! but you only have to do this one time!)

(Menu, Setup, Service Searching, Automatic Scan, Green)

    6) Now to change to your local region.....

(Menu, Setup, Service Searching, AutoBouquetsMaker, AutoBouquetsMaker Providers and scroll down and change where it's currently set as Granada-custom to yourtvregion-custom then press GREEN)

    7) Create your Autobouquets

(MENU, Setup, Service Searching, AutoBouquetsMaker, Delete bouquets, Yes, Start Scan)

    8) Create USB swapfile - 256mb

(MENU, Infopanel, Plugins, SwapManager, GREEN, Select your drive, 256Mb, takes a couple of mins to create, once created choose RED to activate and YELLOW to autostart, then exit)

    9) Restart box - (MENU, Standby / Restart, Restart)

hope this helps u out guys but as stated above ''''''' this is just a bare borns setup image thanks to kiddac and and other users so thanks

and if u get stuck theres plenty of good guys on the site to help u

    Setting up your zGemma 2s

Plug your dish cables into Tuner A IN, and if you have a second satellite line, plug into LNB In (this will be Tuner B). Loop Out is not used.

Disable Tuner B if you only have a single coax cable coming into your box.

    Menu… Setup… Service Searching… Tuner configuration… Tuner B…. Not configured.

Your Zgemma needs constant internet access if you will be viewing anything other than free to air channels.

It is highly recommended you use a direct internet line to your box either via Ethernet cable from your router or via Ethernet cable from a homeplug. It is not recommended to use a USB Wi-Fi stick as they are unreliable and are not always compatible.

Your internet speed does not need to be super-fast to connect to external servers, but it does need to be stable. About 3-4 mb speed via homeplug will be sufficient.
    .
Make sure your box is connected to your home network. Menu… Setup… System… Network
Find your Zgemma boxes IP address and write it down. Menu… Information… Network (i.e. 192.168.1.101)
    FileZilla

Now you need to install an FTP client on your computer to transfer files from your computer to you zGemma. I personally use FileZilla as it’s free and very simple to use.
    https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

    Open FileZilla
     Host Your ZGemma IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.101 )
     Username root
     Password [leave blank]
     Port [leave blank]
    Click Quick Connect.

In the right panel you should now see the file structure of your zGemma.
On your C:/ drive create a folder I.e. C:/zgemma-backup In the left panel of FileZilla navigate to this new folder.

whether tspanel plugin is used. To be on the safe side it is probably best to look in all these places and backup these files if they exist CCcam.cfg newcamd.list mg_cfg.
In the right top panel navigate to these locations.
    / user / keys / etc.

If the following files exist in these locations, highlight them, right click and download to your computer. (or double click them if you want to do it with no visual feedback)
    CCcam.cfg newcamd.list mg_cfg
You now have a backup of the files so can continue with your fresh install.

    Firmware

Visit http://www.zgemma.tv/ to find the most recent OpenATV firmware for your ZGemma. (or whichever firmware you require)
    Click on ZGemma 2s
    Click on OpenATV
Download the zip file of the latest nightly build.
    Extract the zip.
Inside this zip file will be a folder called zGemma. This folder needs transferring to a freshly formatted USB stick

    Formatting USB Stick

In Windows operating system, right click your USB drive in File Explorer and click format…

Leave everything as default making sure File System is set to FAT32. Optionally you can give your USB a volume name. i.e. openatv5.1 Check Quick Format. Click Start

I have never had a problem with USB sticks, whether they are expensive ones or cheap promotional USB sticks. But sometimes they just don’t play happy. If this is the case then uncheck quick format and do a full format of the USB.

If you are having problems with USB sticks not being recognised see the Troubleshooting section

    Flashing the new firmware

** Make sure you have backed up any in user/keys/ -CCcam.cfg newcamd.list mg_cfg etc before continuing. **

Copy the zGemma folder onto the USB stick. You are copying the zGemma folder, not the contents of the zGemma folder. On your usb stick you should then just have 1 folder called zgemma.

Depending on the image it will either automatically flash (force) , or require the standby button to be pressed (noforce). If you look in zGemma/sh1 folder on your usb stick, it will have a file that will say either force or noforce. It is usually the latter.

Make sure the Zgemma box is turned off (on/off white button at rear) and place the USB stick in the rear of the box. Turn on the Zgemma.

(noforce) The display will initially show boot, followed by USB if done correctly. Press the standby button on your zGemma while it says USB. The display will now change to FLSH, as your new image is being flashed to your box. (This will take about 5 minutes)

Once your zGemma has finished flashing, it will reboot. As soon as it says boot on the display, remove your usb stick from the rear of your box.

The box will then boot and count up to 99.

Setting up your brand new image

On first load keep pressing the red button to change to your desired language

    Set your TV Resolution
    Set refresh rate to multi
Delete all other languages except UK and US

Use the wizard to set up your basic features.

    Configuration mode – simple
    Mode – Single
    Satellite – automatic (or 28.2e)
Send DiSEqc – yes/no depending whether you have a motorised dish or not

(There was a bug not so long ago that was making Tuner A just display a black screen on scrambled channels. It is recommended you set DiSEqc to yes even though you don’t have a motorised dish)

Do a full manual scan. (this step can be skipped and done later if you are in a rush)

Type of scan – single satellite (for fixed dish)
    Network Scan – Yes
    Clear before scan – yes
Only free scan – no (unless you only want free to air)

Go make a brew as this manual scan will take about 15/20 minutes.

On complete if using Astra 28.2e this will find about 900+ channels. Anything significantly less than that will mean you dish will need a bit of a realignment tweak. (see Troubleshooting section)

Make sure your zGemma box is wired into your internet and it should automatically connect after the network wizard.
Reboot to change the default language to English. ( Hold down the red power button on the remote. Click restart. )

    Changing Default Settings

These menus are based on OpenATV menu structure. OpenViX will have the same settings but will be found in different menus on your box.

    Video

    Menu… Setup… Video
    Video output – HDMI
    Automatic resolution – disabled
Mode – 1080i (720p for non hd tvs)
    Refresh rate – multi
    4:3 – pillarbox
16:9 – Letterbox (scale or auto, depending on your personal preference)

    Time

    Menu… Setup… System… Time settings

OSD Position – Your screen position will probably need realigning and resizing on first set up.
    Menu… Setup… Usage & GUI… … Extended GUI… OSD Position

Setting up USB / HDD for use with your box

You need a freshly formatted usb stick or hdd if you wish to use the EPG plugins/Picons/Pausing/Recording. It is recommended but not essential that you use a different USB stick than the original USB stick used to flash the box. You can then easily re-flash the box with the original stick if something goes wrong.

    Initialise your usb/hdd

Plug in your usb/hdd device that you are going to be using as your storage media into the rear of your box

    Menu… setup… System… Storage Devices… Initialisation

Leave all the setting as default. If you have a very large USB stick or HDD you can take advantage of a faster more stable file system by changing the file format to ext4. Please note though that ext4 will make your device unreadable on a windows computer. See fix in USB trouble shooting.

Creating a USB swap file (virtual memory)

    Menu… Info Panel… Plugins… SwapManager…

Create (green button) this takes a few minutes

256mb (can be bigger if you have a larger device)

    Activate(red button)

    Autostart (yellow button) exit

    Plugins

If you are planning on installing lots of plugins, especially media plugins like kodidirect, tsmedia or mediaportal, it is recommended to first install flashexpander plugin before you install any other plugin. With flashexpander all your plugins are stored on your USB/HDD rather than your Zgemma box. If you plan on keeping it bare bones like this guide, flashexpander isn’t required and doesn’t need to be installed.

    FlashExpander

    Menu … Plugins… Download Plugins… Extensions Flashexpander (2.0+git5870)

Cacheflush (keep you zgemma’s memory nice and clean)

    Menu … Plugins… Download Plugins… Extensions
    cacheflush (2.0+git9)
    restart
    Then to activate
    Menu… Plugins… CacheFlush.
    Enable cacheflush - yes
    Clear Now (Blue button)

    XMLTVImport (EPG data Importer)

    Menu … Plugins… Download Plugins… Extensions
    xmltvimport (1.0+git95)
    followed by…
    xmltvimport-rytec(20150407-r0)

*CrossEPG doesn’t play nice on OpenATV so that is why xmltvimport is used

    Auto Bouquets Maker

    Menu… plugins… Download Plugins…systemplugins autobouquetsmaker (2.0+git1393)
    Restart

    Optional Plugins

E2Speedtest - if you have glitching problems. Your internet speed might be really bad. e2speedtest

IPTVPlayer - IPTVplayer is a great source for movies. A good feed source is Vumoo.

Permanent VFD Clock - Display your clock on your boxes front panel display when in standby

    Scanning for Channels

    Auto Bouquets Maker
First of all delete all the default German Bouquets that OpenATV comes with. Press TV button and on each bouquet, press menu… remove entry

    Setup

    menu..Setup… Service Searching… AutoBouquetsMaker…Configure
    Setup mode expert
    schedule scan yes
Time of scan to start 05:00
    Repeat how often Daily
    Keep all non yes
    Add provider prefix no
    Place Bouquets at top
    Skip services yes
Include ‘not indexed’ yes (new channels or channels that have moved recently will live in here)
    Show in ext no

    Providers

    Menu… Setup… Service Searching… AutoBouquetsMaker…Providers

    FreeSat(UK) No
Sky ROI No (don’t think this is now needed to pick up Sentanta HD and Premier HD)
    Sky UK Yes
    Area [your area] custom
    fta only no
    main bouquet yes
    section bouquet yes
    HD Bouquet yes
    FTA Bouquet yes
    FTA HD Bouquet Yes
Swap channels Yes (this moves HD channels over SD channels where appropriate. i.e. BBC1 HD replaces BBC1 SD)

    Start Scan
If scan fails. You have probably got signal strength problems. See Troubleshooting section

    Manual Scan

It is recommend to also do a full manual scan in addition to the Auto Bouquets Maker. Then if ABM hasn’t got a fully up to date channel list you can press the TV button, followed by Green button (satellites) to give you a full list of available channels on that satellite.

    Setting up EPG

Download XMLTVImport and Rytec plugin as outlined above in the plugin section.

Set your EPG to save to your USB/HDD
    Menu… setup… epg… settings

Press left once on EPG location to switch it to your external source. Sometimes this freezes and can take up to 10/20 seconds to change. Be Patient. If it’s still not changing to your external media device, reboot your machine and go straight into this menu and then try again.

My Personal EPG settings are as follows.

    EPG Location /media/hdd
    EPG Filename epg
    Automatic refresh yes
    Refresh every (in hours) 24
    Save EPG data yes
    Automatic save yes

    The rest are default.

    XMLTVImporter Settings
    Menu…Setup…EPG…XMLTV-importer

Choose your own personal settings. Below is just my example

    Daily automatic import enable
    Automatic start time 08:00
    Standby at startup disable
When in deep standby skip the import
    Show in plugin browser yes
    Show in extensions no
Start import after boot up disable
Load long descriptions up to 3 days

    Press Sources (blue button)

    Select Rytec UK
On first load or if your EPG doesn’t seem to be populating

    Press Manual (yellow button)

Load Data – this will take a considerable amount of time but you can cancel out of the screen and it will continue importing in the background.

you need to first install softcams software onto your box as this isn’t provided by default

Softcams To install the softcams software, you will need to google “softcam-feed-mipsel_1.0_all.ipk OpenATV”
or look on linuxsat its on there

Open FileZilla. Transfer your IPK file “softcam-feed-mipsel_1.0_all.ipk OpenATV”
    into the /var/volatile/tmp
Press blue button to open quick launch menu.
    Plugins…IPK Installer
    Select Memory /tmp
    Install Extensions
    Select Softcam file
    Install (Green Button)
    Restart

Once softcams has been installed there will now be a new folder category in your plugins downloads called softcams.

    Menu… plugins… download plugins… softcams

There are 2 main softcam plugins that are currently used.
     CCcam-2.3.0
     Mgcamd-1.38

Locate your 2 files in the left panel and transfer it to usr/keys or /etc in the right panel.
(the keys file can also sometimes live in /etc. – therefore it is recommend you copy it to both user/keys and to /etc. that way you do not have to guess the correct location)
Open softcams panel. Menu… Info Panel… Softcam Panel
Select Cam 1 – press left or right to select Mgcamd-1.38 Select Cam 2 – no cam Start/Restart (Green button)

    Skins

I don’t mind promoting the old Rossi Sky skin that can be found in plugins

Blue HD Skin (sky skin by Rossi)
    Menu … Plugins… Download Plugins… skins
    Openvix-blue-hd (2.1 +git264)
    Restart
Then to activate Menu… Setup… Usage & GUI… Skin Setup

But I highly recommend you now use my all new super slick Sky skin – SLYK 1 HD (V3)

    Software Update

    Menu… Setup… Software Management…Software Update

Everything is now set up. It is entirely up to you how you now further customise and tweak it. This is just a basic clean install with no surplus stuff like Kodi/ts panel/media portal etc.

Most of the screens have a settings menu that is easily accessed by pressing the menu button on the remote. This is especially useful for tweaking the autobouquets and EPG pages. You might want to tweak font sizes, number of rows etc. depending on the size of your TV.

If you can’t find a channel in the Autobouquets, look in the ‘Not Indexed’ Bouquet. If you can’t find it in there try pressing the TV button, then Satellites (green button). This will list every channel that your last manual scan found. Channel name might be something like 53220

    Boot Loader Graphics

To edit your loading screens there is simple piece of software you can download called enigma2 logomatik.

    Picons

To download the latest SNP picons (picons that will still work if the transponder changes frequency)

There is an additional step you have to do, so they are available via the plugins download.

Menu… Plugins…Press Green to download plugins
    Feeds… picon.xwz,
install this feed and reboot your receiver.
    Once rebooted…
    Menu… Plugin… Press Green to download plugins…Picons
You will now have the full range of Ocram Picons available.
The ones I have in my folder were called. snp.400x240.transparent-white-nopadding
    Image Backup
Before you add on any other plugins or extensions I recommend you now do a full backup image of your set up. Then if anything goes wrong you can now load your barebones perfect image. Menu… Setup… Software Management… Backup Image
Now have a play, there isn’t anything you can really break that isn’t easily fixed with a backup image reflash
