    Hey

I have recently switched to PC. I have a VU+ DUO2 and am using Black Hole 3.01. How do I transfer the files over to the box and that I make sure they go in the right file directory. Thanks

Filezilla would be a good option. The host you need to connect to is the IP address of your box. Also, you will need the username and password to login to the box.

The os mini has a couple of extras that are not normally available on a receiver in this price range, onboard wifi, bluetooth and universal remote.

This may vary from user to user, router location, etc. but I couldn't rely on the built-in wifi. I am resorted to using the home-plugs for web access.

Its like owning a focus and upgrading to a mondeo.
Both will do exactly the same thing, get you from A to B but you may get a little bit more speed and a couple of extras on the mondeo v's the focus.
If your only interested in getting from A to B, go with your current setup.
Both the receivers you mentioned have pluggable tuners , can accomodate an internal hdd and the xtrend has a fast processor, that said, your edision looks like a great spec'd machine.
Only you can really decide weather the bells and whistles are worth the extra cost.

Many thanks for the analogy. Makes perfect sense.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Amiko and Edision have a sh4 and mips chip types respectively. I have read lots of pros & cons to both. So naturally I ended up buying both. I'm struggling to see what the difference is since I only want to get from A to B. Without turbo chargers, cruise control, 22's, etc. :)
i am leaning towards the Edision and my reasons are, more support available than Amiko. More polished and stable images/themes (Rendering the box more user friendly).

@ladder49 - Been honest. I think I need to move it from the spare room to the main viewing room. I like the Edision (for the reasons listed above). The OS Mini seems to be looked down upon for some reason. I guess because you have a lot of superior models in the same brand. But, I have to say for an entry level Linux receiver, it's a small box that packs a big punch.

Thanks again for replies. I have a feeling I will purchase another Edision OS Mini (Dual Tuner). Unless.... there are more persuasive recommendations. :)

    Hi Folks,

    This is my current setup.

    1. Amiko Alien 2 Triple Tuner (PKT Image installed)
    2. Edision OS MINI 2x DVB-S/S2 (OpenATV image installed)

A family member is looking for a new box and I am considering giving them the Amiko Alien and upgrading to a new box.

Here is what I have in mind.
    Xtrend-ET8000-2x-DVB-S2
    Gigablue-HD-Ultra-UE-2x-DVB-S-S2

    Now, the dilemma...
Looking at the specs the Xtrend edges all the boxes in the same price bracket.
Then I look at the Edision OS Mini and it's nearly half the price of the Xtrend and the one I have does the job perfect. Watch & Record when I want. No fancy stuff.

Can anyone give me any reason why I should or should not go with the Xtrend/Gigablue over another Edision OS Mini?
In what way would the Xtrend be superior or benefit me over my current setup?

    Any suggestions, advice greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Cheers. I'll have a bit of time next week to play around with it. I intent to load an OpenATV 5.1 image onto my Alien 2 box. Install a softcam (mgcamd) plugin. Configure all relevant files and FTP them to their required locations. What can go wrong!!?? LOL :)

I don't think it matters which image you put on your alien, cccam won't run due to it's hardware.
Mgcamd is reported as a very stable emu but stability is down to a number of factors, internet speed and the quality of your share.
Oscam is more versatile but requires more setup but is constantly being developed (development for cccam has ceased)
I've ran oscam on an alien with no problems.
I've ran mgcamd on my solo2 with no problems either.
Why don't you install both oscam and mgcamd on your alien and decide which one works best for you.

Brilliant. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

I take it from reading other posts etc. that the install of OScam or MGcamd protocol is a matter of running the softcam ipk and then ftp the required config files to their appropriate locations? For example Oscam /etc/tuxbox/config.

You've touched on it here for me.

Is it fair to say an OScam client setup is not just running an ipk and configuring some files? Is there much more to it?

    Many thanks for your reply.

Sorry I should have explained a bit better.

I want to use a softcam on my receivers that is a stable one. At present Cccam is running on the OpenATV image of my Edision box and OScam is running on the Hyperion image of my Alien box.

I plan to change the image on my Alien box to an OpenATV image and therefore need to install TSPanel like I have done on the Edision box.

The query I have, is there one softcam/protocol better than the other? If so, which should I aim to use/install from TSPanel onto the box?

    Hi Folks,

I apologise in advance if this has been answered previously. I cannot locate an exact answer in the depths of this form.

    Current Setup:
Amiko Alien 2+ Box / Hyperion 4.5 Image / OScam
Edision OS Mini / OpenATV 5.1 / Cccam

From reading posts/forums I have read that OScam and MGcamd are more stable than that of Cccam. My basic question is this.

Which protocol is best to install and use on both of these boxes for a stable connection?
I do not have a server nor am I setting up a server. I am just receiving a signal.

    Thanks in advance.
