Like all enigma boxes the Alien took a few months from release before good images became available, and in the absence of specific technical explanation of what you did not like about the box I must assume you had an early box and did not have the expertise to resolve a setup issue.

But that would be to miss the point about this box. It brings together DVD-S, DVD-T and webTV applications into a single modern box that meets current EU energy efficiency regulations and I am sure it will evolve into an indispensable consumer device. But we should remember that open source Linux boxes are a hobbists box and should expect a little tinkering before we have our ideal setup. Just think about the years that have passed to evolve some mipsel boxes to their current level of robustness.

I find my Alien a delight to use and look forward to releasing a set of generic plugins that run on both SH4 and mipsel boxes.

Can we please keep this forum at a factual level, especially when describing hardware. Statements full of expletives but devoid of facts do not assist readers to make informed choices.

Spark is NOT an Operating System! It is a client/server application that runs under the Linux Distro produced by ST Microelectronics. To evolve spark we need access to the source code for ywapp.exe and ywsystem_server.exe, not the Distro.

The only reason it looks like it is a part of the operating system is because the file /etc/inittab is configured to run spark instead of a shell.

I would be greaqtful if someone could post a working example of /root/spark/.ebook.xml or a definition of the usage tags in this file.

I am not interested in accessing a secure server, just in getting the application to access local lan files.

NO! It is compiled for an SH4 processor not a mipsel box.

As of a few days ago numerous owners of QboxHD mini' reported a fault on the previously working MyTube plugin. The index and search functions work OK, but when a clip is selected to view the box freezes with the busy symbol running. It does not recover and needs to be rebooted.

The problem is specific to Qbox (and possibly other SH4 processor boxes). Various mipsel based boxes with similar plugins work OK.

I have added diagnostic code to my python scripts and extracted the following error message.
