I would leave the heatsink as it is, if it's well stuck down, it's probably on with a thermal glue pad, over time with the heat the pad will break down, and you could then change it, but i would advise just putting a better fan on, rather than damaging the processor at the moment.

I'm not going to say anything else about this, because you don't understand because it worked for you, wait until it doesn't work though and you will see. it doesnt matter if you partition and format it correctly sometimes it will not work no matter what.

To be honest mate, you probably won't get the same answer from two people. I have two DM800 clones and they both have Ferrari sim's, i just bought them because i talked to the seller, and he seemed to be ok, it certainly wasn't because i thought Ferrari sim's were better.

I really don't think there is that much difference between the two sim type's, supposedly the Ferrari sim's are in box upgradeable and sim 2.01 is not, but wether that is true or not, i don't really think anyone knows. So far from what i have seen sim2.01 team has released new ssl's and patches before the Ferrari team and there also seem's to be more people patching images etc for sim 2.01 (RamiMaher/Mfaraj/PRZ). Both teams ssl's support the latest kernel version and drivers etc at the moment, but it will be pretty much certain that Dream Multimedia put fix's in the next versions, so the team's will then have to update their patches etc.
There seems to be some sort of clone war's going on recently, and the Ferrari team appear to be the instigators, claiming that the sim 2.01 team have been sabotaging the clone forum, so everything sim 2.01 has been banned from there, it used to be a good place before all this nonsense started, and Ferrari took the place over, but now you won't get a truthful answer from anyone there.

If you own a sim 2.01 DM clone, i certainly wouldn't go and buy a Ferrari sim for it, as you won't see any real benefit from your purchase, apart from a hole in your wallet.

P.s. If you buy a Ferrari sim DM800 clone, they don't have a fan in them, as they claim that there hardware runs cooler and you don't need a fan. I can honestly assure you that you still need a fan, and you will have to go and buy one, because they still run mad hot.

You are totally missing the point here, you bought a new box and your hard drive worked!! great!! there is people all over the place can't get hard drives to work, or stuggle to get them to work in there dm800's, My dm would not format/ initialize the disk, it most certainly does'nt just depend on the settings you use, you have been lucky, but because you never had a problem with the drive you seem to think no one else does!

Yeah that's what i would reccomend doing.

Depends on the partition??? what about if it's a brand new drive with out partitions??? You have been lucky, plenty people have not, i battled for six days solid to get a drive to work on one box, and my other box the drive worked instantly.

Yeah maybe your's has done it straight off, but if you look all over the internet, theres pages and pages of people having trouble with hard drives on Dm's and if you format a big drive on your pc in a coulple of minutes, then you just have to mount the drive, you have obviously been lucky if your dm formatted the drive.

That's not strictly true now, if you flash the correct bootloader for you sim version after the image, it's perfect, and i think it's always better to use an original image if you can, rather than one thats been messed about with.

If you are using your drive Fat32? i would advise you to format it ext3, for using on a dreambox, if you dont you will possibly get problems with your recordings.

I thought it was a SIM 2.01 box you have Dave not a Ferrari sim box because for sim 2.01 you need ssl76d.

Just looked at your No CA post and you were using ssl76c, so definately sim 2.01, so this is wrong for you.

You have to watch installing the very latest images, as they have a newer kernel version, and newer drivers etc, and don't work on clones yet till the sim teams release new updated ssl's to work with them. Actually i think RamiMaher has patched some of the newer images but i'm not sure if they are working correctly yet.
Gemini have said they are not releasing anymore images, but they have released a plugin (GP3) that works with all the images, this plugin comes with loads of addons in it and you can also install other extras to go with it. I would advise caution with this GP3 as they are well known to release clone bombs in there images, and i would also think that it is for using with the newer kernel images.

Yeah so have i but i have also read a lot of posts where they did update, as long as you do it the way they tell you, I think it;s going to be the same problem every week if it's not left on the correct channels for updating.

Try the Pheonix edition and ssl76c after, same image just different look.

Did you do what they said to do in this post further back, because if you never and it has not updated they say you could have the same problem next week, plenty of people saying there card updated and it was working yesterday.

Yeah i could confirm for sure that works, thats the way i sorted it out when i flashed the wrong image.

Use the patched version of Dreamup, by forhike and natas, i just tried to upload it for you, but it wouldn't let me, it's easy to find on forums.

Daveangel, just use dreamup to get an ip, then flash as normal from your broswer, far better than waiting on dreamup to flash the image.
