So far - I am agreeing with you. The SparkFans.net site also is little help.

I've had a post (waiting for Administrator Appr***l) for over a week now.

The <admin> there has never posted, and neither he nor the <Mods> have email addresses. Hopeless.

    My situation so far is:

Having changed <Boot> to Enigma, I get as far as:

5.After 5 seconds, you will see [Forc] in LED, release [OK] button and press [align=right] Button.
6.if everything OK, You will see [U LD] shining in LED

I have NEVER seen [U LD] in the display at this point only ever [FACT] (=Factory Reset, I presume)

I accept I have tried only SanDisk 4Gb and 1Gb sticks, and TDK 2Gb Stick - I am awaiting Kingston Sticks by post.

I find it difficult to understand WHY the box is SO picky about USB sticks. USB has been around a l o n g time.

It occurs to me that we don't know WHICH flavour of FAT32 the Box is expecting! It is not stated.

The Allocation Unit Size for FAT32 can be:

    512 Bytes
    1024 Bytes
    2048 Bytes
    4096 Bytes
    8192 Bytes
    16 Kb
    32 Kb
    64 Kb

Extended FAT32 offers even more choices

Whilst FAT32 should be FAT32 :sure: perhaps they are not all created "equal"

Would formatting under Linux be less "flakey"?

Which "Flavour" of FAT32 in the Box looking for?

Perhaps this explains the frequent failures?

Any opinions from the firmware authors welcome!

Just as a side issue, If trying to attempt this by LAN connection - should a normal patch lead be used, or a crossover cable?

    Just a thought

    Best Regards

    Thanks glenviewjf,

I just bricked it - attempting the conversion. Can't even revert it back to Apollo, still, from what you say its well overdue for updating to something better.
Sadly, due to my redundancy back in June 2009, money is a bit tight - so I'm thinking of the Eagle 800 HD at around 70 quid.

    (slotted my REALLY OLD Comag SL35 back in 'til I decide . . . . .)

But I probably need to ask in a different forum

    Thanks for your input

    Hi Guys,

I'm new here and hope this is the correct forum . . .

Presently running a Phoenix Apollo CI+MC (still) with an 80cm Technomate Dish (motorised). Slowly recalibrating it after it took a beating in some recent high winds - but its back to some kind of order again now, thankfully.

Am considering converting to OpenBox x820, which I gather will make the most of this Box.

Could any of you explain what advantages there might be in doing this?

The last firmware upgrade on the Apollo was a l o n g time ago, whilst OpenBox seems still to be active . . . .

any observations on this move would be very welcome.

    Best Regards
