Many thanks but I know how to install a usb in the box, in fact it is already there. What I needed to know was how to take advantage of the usb memory during flashin of a new image. For instance if I try to flash the openpli-enigma2-8.0star-dm500hd_Japhar_v6_GStreamer_1.18.3_20210227.nfi, which is supposed to work on my original DM500HD, it does not install as there is not enough flash rom available in the box. I know that once installed a new image I can use FlashExpander to expand the memory, but what can I do during initial flashing if the image is too big?

Installed on my dm520hd original and works perfectly. Just one questions please. How do I make the IPTV channels work? The only reference to IPTV I was able to find in the image was in the Japher addons manager under "Support OpenPLI4....IPTV by Japher". There I found "IPTV List OpenPLI 4.0 IPTV (1600+ channels) All OE". I run it and got the list of channels but none work. Am I missing something?

    Many thanks

Hello friends, I am almost sure I have a LAN hardware problem, but I would like confirmation by some of you wizards. Everything was ok with my DM520HD until yesterday when I noticed I could not upload a channel list. I looked at the network configuration in settings and everything seemd ok except there was no link showing and a netwrok test failed on ip address and got these resutls:

    LAN adapter LAN connection green

    Local Network Disconnected red

    DHCP Enabled green

    IP address unconfirmed red

    Nameserver unconfirmed red

Changing from DHCP to fixed ip does not solve the problem either. The lan is ok and the ethernet cable connection to the box is also ok. I have changed the cable twice and also changed the router but the problem remains. The odd thing is that sometimes the lan green and red lights flash, especially just after plugging in a lan cable, but then they go off and stay off even during a manual network test. If I go into flash/recovery mode from switch on the recovery boot screen stops on the dhcp search.

My question is: could this beheaviour be due to some software or firmware misconfiguration or can I be sure this is a hardware fault?

If it is a hardware fault I could use a wifi usb adapter. Could you suggest one that does not require any additional drivers?

    Many thanks

Dreambox DM500HD original, OpenPli 4 image

Installed without problem and it appears correctly on the plugins. When started it does create a tmp folder on the hard disk correclty and displays the list of bbc channels in a black box. When I select any of these channels the box title changes to "Select a program" but the box remains black. What is missing? Why does it ask me to select a program when I have already selected it in the previous screen? Any idea? Thanks

Thanks Compo. Following your confirmation I took the plunge and updated my box with the latest official DM image. Not only it worked just fine, but when I run the DM Authenticity Test it checked out correctly as an original box. I was amazed particularly as I read that the sim A8P boxes had all the same mac address. How is it possible that such common mac address checks out correctly with the DM Authenticity site? My mac is 00 09 34 2b 99 fe. Does anybody know if this is the normal A8P address?

Has anybody heard if DreamMultimedia have created a time bomb, or similar, for the A8P card? Is it safe to upgrade to the latest official DM images with improved flash error correction? Has anybody flashed one of the latest (after 05 September 2011) official DM images on an A8P clone without any problem?

I have just purchased an old DM500HD with the A8P card and a very crummy image and would like to flash something better (ideally OpenPLI 4), but I am scared that the latest orginal images might carry some nasty surprises and I might end up with an expensive door stopper ;(. Your input is much apprecated.

Thanks Master G. I have tried several original images and they all work fine but I don't understand why updating the rescue loader should affect the tuner. Is that what you are saying, that if I change the rescue loader an original image might not recognize the tuner any more?

If I then run into this problem what clone image should I then try? There seem to be only Japher or sim2 images for the 520. Any other?

Last question, if I update the rescue loader can I then downgrade back to the 102 version if things go wrong?

I have a DM520 supposedly original. It runs original images quite happily, but as I am not trusting the supplier and the OriginalDreambox plugin shows it as not original I fear it is probably a clone with a very good sim. By the way it does not have a sim card but a chip. At the moment it is running openpli 5 from pli.images.net. It has a rescue loader identified as 102 but the latest rescue loader from the dreamupdate board is 103. Does anybody know if updating the rescue loader might cause problems to not quite original boxes? Might it interfere with a clone sim?

Aplogies if this sounds stupid, but I had an old dm500hd clone where the greatest problem was to find the correct image. How can I find out if all the images in this forum are for orginal or clone boxes? I can see that when the title says ".... Japher sim..." that image is not for my DM520, but other images don't give any indication. Could somebody please explain?

    Many thanks

Congratulations to all for your enthusiasm and helpful hints.
I am a beginner and just started playing with my new Dreambox 500HD. I am totally confused about the various components of the firmware and software and how they could be upgraded without causing any major problems. I ahve been looking at all the forums and pretty well everywhere but I have not found an idiot's guide that clearly explained what is going on in the box.

    I have the following setup
    Sim 2.1,
    SSL 83-ro,
    Peter Pan Neverland Image
    Image version experimental 2011-04-05,
    Enigma version ramiMaher-experimental,
    dvb module 2.6.18-74-dm500hd-20110309-ro.
    frontprocessor Vnone
    tuner BCM4505

    My questions are:
is Enigma part of the image so that if I upgrade Peter Pan or install another image I also upgrade Enigma?
If I find an image such as PL1 that says for instance Enigma 3.2 and my Enigma is 2 can I sitll use that image on my box?
Can I upgrade from SSL83 to SSL84 without changing the image also.
Is there any order (SSL, Image, driver, bootloader etc.) in which one should do the upgrade?
I read about drivers also conflicting with imge versions. How do I find out which drivers I have and how do I go about to change/upgrade them?
What is the EMU (emulator? of what?)

As you can see I am totally confused and will very much appreciate some pointers from the experts on this board. Many thanks
