After a long day of doing configs and the likes I found the cccaminfo 1.6 didn't work on my deco. I searched for every possible way to get the 1.4 version which does work on my other deco. No luck.

So having multiboot is great to try another image which in this case was the official OpenPli 7.3. This one has the cccaminfo 1.4 and after installing and reconfiguring everything it did work without a glitch.

I had planned on trying the OpenPli 9.0 version but I've read about certain py function that were removed due to the change to python 3. I doubt very much if it will work so I won't try it for the time being. Maybe I'll try another image like openhdf or openvix just for fun but for now my working version will be the OpenPli 7.3 being the one that works best.

Coming from this GigaBlue 800seplus : OpenPLi 7.2Star 20200526 1.17.0.1 thread, I promised to post my experiences with the OpenPli 8x with my new UHD Trio 4K deco here.

I own three other GB 800SE+ deco's each being flashing with the 7.3Star Image and using a rather unknown Copper-FHD skin.

I wanted to buy another 800UE+ deco but that sale was cancelled because of very uninterested seller. Since I know there's a lot of info on this forum I went looking for an alternative second hand one that could work with the OpenPli (and other) images.

I found the 4K deco's are better supported today and luckily one was available second hand for little more than I spent on the cancelled one.

That is the UHD Trio 4K. It came in near new state with remote and psu and even the original box and manual.

This one had OpenSpa 8.3 and the original factory image with multiboot.

I had already a long list of images so no need to make a backup.

The OpenPli 8.x Star Image is an emmc image which means I had to erase everything for this to work. The whole flashing procedure being a little different from what I was used to on the 800SE+ deco's, but I got the hang of it quickly.

This image comes with a I think it was called grey-brushed skin, something like that, which doesn't work. It has multiple py errors that provoke the dreaded green screen.

For those who try a skin causing that, the easy way to get out of the problem is not reinstalling, just use ftp to get on the box,

go to /usr/shared/enigma2 and delete the folder where the failing skin is located.

Next restart enigma2 and you'll have a working default skin again.

So I installed my old Copper-FHD skin and it worked. I only needed to adjust some py converter functions for things like satellite names etc.

Since the official OpenPli site also provides multiboot images, I will be trying some of those in the coming days and will post back here.

Just my luck, today I received the new Trio 4K UHD and it work perfectly with the 8xStar image and my Copper-FHD skin. I did need to adjust the .xml files again but since I have no problem with that I got it up and running in no time.

This deco is way better than the 800SE+, noticeable in the flash and memory space but above all the 4 core cpu which makes it much more responsive.
btw, it does show time and channel number as it should.

I said I was gonna open a new thread on the GigaBlue TRIO 4K UHD forum, but since I found this GigaBlue TRIO 4K UHD : OpenPLi 8.xStar 20240720 GSt 1.20.5 - Dash/FFMpeg/Exteplayer3 and iCam Support thread I will be adding my experiences there since this deco is multiboot so I can freely toy around with other images while maintaining my working one.

Once again thank you toysoft for all your help, if I ever need something for my deco's I won't hesitate to ask you.

So I bought the 800 UE+ but since yesterday was the last day for the seller to send the deco (which didn't happen), today I got a message from the sale platform stating the order was cancelled. This isn't the first time it happened to me as there seems to be quite a large number of sellers with little seriousness on this platform. Worst thing is I lost 10-12 days as I now I have to wait for the refund.

I also found out the UE is basically the exact same as the SE except for the LCD display. At the beginning of this thread I found these posts:

Best Image. Unfortunately, the clock and channel number are not shown on the display. But only the number 100.

    Thanks

This phenomenon is the same for all Gigablue boxes with the firmware.

No problem with OpenATV, they have it under control ;)

From my experiences with the three SE+ boxes I can tell this is NOT a firmware problem. All my three deco's have the same firmware and yet only my first deco is working correctly as for the display showing channel nr and time. The other two also show the 100. Even though the hardware date of the first and last deco are the same there clearly is a hardware difference (flash memory being bigger as I mentioned earlier) so I suspect the driver in the image for the display works only correctly for a specific hardware version. Maybe Gigablue used different display driver chips depending on the production availability?

Thus, I suspect the same might happen on the UE+, display not being of much use.

Now since the UE+ order is cancelled I found a UHD trio 4K for just 20€ more. Reason enough (more flash, more mem) for me to buy that one.

I also checked out the thread on that deco here on the forum, seems to be far more interesting. Especially since toysoft also posted several openpli images which I will be glad to try with my skin. If you happen to have a 7.3 version I'm more than willing to give it a try as well.

When I receive the deco I will finalize my posts here and transfer over to the GigaBlue TRIO 4K UHD my experiences with that deco.

    * to be continued *

So yes, I received the third 800se+ deco today. And I've been busy trying it out.

This one is the combo version and that was the main reason for me to buy it because the dvb-t tuner alone is worth double what I payed for the deco.

It also came with very nice universal multi remote which works absolutely fine and that comes in handy for my bedroom as I can have just one remote for the deco and the tv.

Now for the juicy part. It came with the openld 2.9, just as the second one, so I was a bit worried that it would be the same older hardware.

So since I have the openld 2.9 image no need for a backup and the first thing I tried was

openpli 7.2 from toysoft and guess what... It worked!

next I tried my own image backup from the first deco, openpli 7.3 from 2020-05-26 and.... it also worked!

So to top it off I tried the 7.3 20201205 from toysoft and... yep, it also worked and is currently the one I use.

As you can see from the info below both decos have the exact same hardware date, which is what I hoped for and effectively got.

    deco42.jpg

    first deco (the good one)

    deco43.jpg

    the new third deco

Now I could have gone wild and try the openpli 8.x for this deco, but... I found this post from toysoft here on the forum:

93 Mb is too small to have v8.xStar, the compile without most of things is over 110 Mb.

    TS

and I've noticed that this deco has less flash space than my first deco. I found that out while copying my skin and the ftp failed so I had to put the flash extender plugin in to be able to use my skin. It's probably a 128mb flash where as the first seems to have 256... very strange. I believe the 800ue+ has 256 so we'll see when it gets here.

Depending on my experience with the ue I'll be deciding which one goes where but since I will have 4 while I only 3 I'll save one for backup, most likely the second one with the LD image.

    More to come...

After installing the caminfo.ipk I modified the skin to show the right info.

    The result:

    IMG_20240921_103537.jpg

Everything works as it should although this deco lags a bit more than my first one.

The reason why I use this skin is because it actually shows all the relevant info in just one bar. I haven't found any skin that even comes close to this, if there's one that show it all it usually occupies much more screen space.

This monday I will receive the third 800 se+ deco which also is a combo like the first one I have. I'll be posting my experiences with trying to flash openpli on that one.

Later on during next week I should receive the 800 ue+, so more on that later.

So after 3 days of trying more than 10 different images this afternoon I finally found one that works, OpenLD 2.9

This is an image of Spanish origin LD standing for Lonas Digital and as it happens it's the image that came with the deco.

What it didn't expect was that this image actually works with the custom theme I use and on top of that I also got it working with C**Cams 2.3.0

Although some things are different from OpenPli, which I clearly would prefer, like not being able to download plugins or extensions, for the moment I can live with that. At least now I can use the deco in my living room. My dish setup consists of 3 quad LNB's so I could even setup another deco in my bedroom if at anytime I'd want to.

I also bought the 800 UE+ and although this would not be the correct thread to post, I will post my results here when I receive the new 800 se+ and the 800 ue+ to have the complete picture of all this mess.

    ** to be continued **

Thank you very much, at least I now have two images that will most likely work in case my first deco goes bananas.

I tried both images on the second deco I have but they don't work, show the typical green screen.
This is very likely because the second deco has a hardware date of 2015 whilst my first deco is from 2018 and works with the mentioned image (of which I also found a full backup just yesterday).

I have another 800 se+ deco coming my way so I will try these on that one hoping they will work, otherwise I'll probably purchase an 800 UE+ and flash the openpli 8.0 which I found here on the forum.

The reason for all of this mess is because I use a customized Copper-FHD theme and want it on both deco's. This theme works only on 2018+ images as it uses some python stuff that won't work on earlier versions.

I'll post my results here so you'll know.
