I've worked it out. Boxes with an HiSilicon chip (Octagon SF8008 f.ex) use ServiceHiSilicon which doesn't have the ability to record/pause, other boxes use ServiceMP3 which does...

Did you tried exteplayer3 (5002) if it's installed ?
TS
Yes, exteplayer3 works exactly like 4097 (which I believe is the core OpenATV player). No ability to timeshift or rewind with either 5002 or 4097.

This is what I've observed:
ServiceApp uninstalled
Using enigma2 original playback system
#SERVICE 1 - there is a delay (black screen) of video for about 5/6 seconds and then some slow motion (possibly HiSilicon chip related, similar to DVB-S2). Pause, rewind, timeshift, record all working
#SERVICE 4097 - no delay, zap is pretty instant. No rewind, timeshift, but can record, though the channel name doesn't appear in the movie playlist
It seems using service 1 which uses the same player used for DVB-S2 allows recording and timeshift but there are big delays on zapping.

Hi all,
I have an Octagon SF8008 4K box running the latest OpenATV version.
IPTV works well using the 4097 service code but timeshift doesn't work, so after some searching I found that I can replace 4097 with 1 to use the built in DVB player. That works for timeshift but when zapping to another channel, the screen is black (with audio) for around 5 seconds and then there's lag on the video for another 5-10 seconds.
Using 4097, channel switching is really fast, but should timeshift work?
Thanks!
Recording IPTV, I think is an issue, if you deactivate ServiceApp, and you set the ID 4097, etc directly, it could gain some more stability, but on my experience you cannot get more than 1 Minute of recording.

It's odd as recording is fine, it's just timeshift that doesn't work. Pausing the stream just pauses it like it would on say VLC, but when I change the service code to 1, I get the same pause, rewind etc as I do on satellite.
I'll try uninstalling ServiceApp and see what impact that has.
