IMhO you can't really go wrong with a VU+Duo. The price of an original from the site sponsor has now came down making it better value.

Everything on the VU+Duo works as you would expect it to. The image support is very good and it has a large user base so there is always likely to be someone with the same receiver who will be able to assist in the result of any issues. The lastest Blackhole images have added quite a few inn***tive new features.

The VU+Uno is also a good single tuner receiver which is cheaper than the Duo. However, a Dual tuner is due to be released for the Uno later this year which would enable you to upgrade an Uno to a twin tuner at a later date. The Uno had a few teething problems at the start with certain channels but these were resolved in a firmware update. The Uno has greater flash and ram compared to a Duo which may make a difference if images keep increasing in size.

Current clone Sunray DM800SE's are meant to be solid and also have excellent image support.

The new Gigablue 800SE is meant to be a good receiver and is priced reasonably.

The Xtrend range of receivers are also excellent. The Xtrend 9200 is a great value twin tuner receiver which a higher spec on paper than a VU+Duo but possibly less third party image/software support compared to the VU+Duo.

I have component working at 1080i on Blackhole 1.7.2.
However, I wouldn't think the latest Vix image would be any different.

I would go into the A/V settings and change the Video output to YPbPr and then adjust the mode to 720p or 1080i.

576i may be a default mode that is always active.

There has been reports of slightly weaker tuners in the Ultimo from early adopters on the VTI forum compared to the Duo.
This might be an issue for some if you are chasing marginal satellites where signal strength is critical.

I know that there were some initial problems with the satellite tuner on the Uno that effected certain transponders on 13E and 30W which required a firmware update to fix.

The front OLED on the Ultimo does look great and the keyboard on the remote will be useful when a good web browser is developed.

This box does look very nice and if you get one fully loaded with three sat tuners and a USB DTT will be great.

All of the VU+Ultimo tuners are modular giving you the choice of how you wish to configure it and meaning replacing any broken tuners is straight forward.

In terms of image support for the Ultimo - Blackhole, VTI, Vix and OpenPli Vix will support it.

The 1GB flash may prove useful in the future. The DM7020HD also has a 1GB flash but no images or other facilities currently take advantage of this flash size.
