If i want only share with my server i don't need a connnection with LNB, right? but if i want to share and also watch the channels in the server i need a tv board with tv tuner in my PC, right?

I'm a beginner in linux system and I don't speak and write english very well. So my apologies for this...
I have a desktop and I don't use it. It's a core 2 duo, 1GB RAM, 500GB hard disk, and I would like to create a PC Linux server, with no dreambox, only PC server, with a smartreader (smargo or amnikey), to share my satelite card with my family and friends. I read some good tutorials in the forum but I would like to be advised by the more experienced membres. Waths the best and simple tutorial for the beginners? Don't forget I'm a beginner in this system.
What's the best linux: ubuntu or debian?
