How to Reply, Quote and React to a Post

To reply to a thread on LinuxSat-Support: scroll to the Quick Reply box and click Submit — or click Quote beneath a specific post first if you want to respond to it directly.
How Do I Reply to a Thread?
Scroll to the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the thread, type your message, and click Submit. To open the full editor with every formatting option, click More Options / Preview.
How Do I Quote a Specific Member?
To reply to a specific post, click Quote beneath that post. The quoted text is added to your reply so everyone can see what you are responding to. Keep quotes short — trim them to the relevant part.
How Do I Quote Several Posts at Once?
Click Quote on each post you want to include. An "Insert Quotes" button appears — click it to drop all of the selected quotes into a single reply. This is ideal when you are answering several people together.
How Do I Quote Just Part of a Post?
Select (highlight) any part of a post with your mouse and a small Quote tooltip appears. Click it to quote only the part you highlighted.
How Do I React to a Post?
If you simply want to show appreciation without writing a reply, click the Like / reaction control beneath a post. This is the correct way to say thank you on LinuxSat-Support — a reply that only says "thank you" is against forum rules and will be deleted. Reactions count towards a member's reputation too.
How Do I Mention a Member?
Type @ followed by a member's name in your post and pick them from the list. They receive a notification that you mentioned them — handy for pulling the right person into a discussion.
What's the Etiquette for Replying?
- Stay on topic — start a new thread for a different question.
- Don't quote huge posts — quote only what you are replying to.
- Avoid "bumping" — give members time to reply before posting again.
- Say thanks with the reaction button, not a reply — click 👍 instead of posting "thank you". Gratitude-only replies are against the forum rules and will be deleted.
Common Problems
- Why can't I see a Quote button? Make sure you are logged in — guests can read posts but can't reply, quote or react.
- Why didn't my mention notify anyone? Check you picked the member from the autocomplete list after typing @ — typing a name without selecting it won't send a notification.
- Can I remove a reaction I gave by mistake? Yes, click the reaction again to undo it.
- Why was my reply deleted? Posting just to say thanks is treated as a gratitude-only reply and removed under forum rules — use the reaction button (👍) instead.
