Vu Solo SE v2 or Solo2?

  • Hello,
I want to buy an Enigma 2 machine but I don't know which one to choose between two VU+ products: Solo SE v2 or Solo2.

Do you think it is worth spending about 40$ more for Solo2 instead of the Solo SE v2?

Looking at the technical characteristics, here are the differences:
    - the Solo SE v2 has an external IR receiver,
    - the Solo SE v2 has twice of nand flash memory (512 MB against 256 of the Solo2)
    - the Solo SE v2 I think is much newer of the Solo2,

    - in the Solo2 you can add an internal hard disk;
    - the Solo2 has a VFD display and a front USB.

Display, internal HDD and external IR receiver are not important but may be useful, but what about the half "flash memory"?

I'm not an expert: what is Nand Flash Memory? It may be a limitation to have 256MB instead of 512MB? What changes?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Basically it's the onboard memory which holds your image/plugins etc.

NAND flash memory is a type of non-volatile storage technology that does not require power to retain data. An important goal of NAND flash development has been to reduce the cost per bit and increase maximum chip capacity so that flash memory can compete with magnetic storage devices like hard disks.

The solo se v2 is ideal if your going to use a lot of plugins and may change tuner modules from satellite to terrestrial/cable at a later stage.
The idea of the external ir cable is to facilitate locating your receiver out of sight (behind your tv perhaps) but your remote will still function.
In order for you to record/timeshift, a usb key / hdd or network storage mount would have to be added.
If it is for satellite alone, you'd like to have a tidy receiver with no usb / hdd connected in sight , not plugin dependent and like to have it in view (way better looking in my opinion than the se v2) go for the solo2.

  • Wait in my opinion the biggest difference is that the SE has one DVB-S2 input whereas the Solo2 has 2.

So basically if you're the kind of person who is often recording one channel whilst watching another or likes to record two things at the same time when you're out the house then you definitely need the Solo2.

Thank you for the clear answer. Yes, I'll use it just for satellite and I would like to record/timeshift.

Ok, thanks. I I didn't think about that. But I have only one satellite's cable. Is it possibile to split it with a "splitter"? Or it is not how it works?

The solo se v2 can have a twin tuner module installed.

is it possible to install plugins on an attached flash drive instead of internal memory ?

    Pluginskinmover should do the trick.

It's not normally possible to split a satellite cable (unless it's a unicable system http://www.inverto.tv/guide/?p=12 )
You may be better off to run a second feed from your dish to your receiver.
If that's not possible, a "stacker destacker" option is available but is costly, (€100+ approx)
You will also need to change your lnb (if it has only one output) to a twin or above.
