In terms of server performance i doubt you would notice any difference, if you do decide to upgrade go for the latest server edition without graphical interface.

cheers m8 for the answer ? so just go to ubuntu site and get the laytest version ??

I have tried 10.4, 10.10 and the latest 11 version. My old laptop is, well, old (old acer aspire 3612). I found that the latest version is real slow, which i tried first, with and without the new GUI. Dropped down to 10.10 and it worked a treat. You will find that it is best to run older versions on older systems. If you are just using it as a server, and you access it remotely, then once it is up and running there won't be much difference in server performance, put the pain is when you need to access the PC via the GUI.
But if you have a fairly new system then whatever you like really!
