Vpn gets broken every time Openelec changes version eventually a fix gets released just before the next update breaks it again. I have given up on this route and now have vpn set up on my router and assigned to specific ports. All routers differ so if going this route you would need to visit your router suppliers website to see how to set up
i use DDWRT on my router to get ma VPN on it see if your router can get the custom firmware post your make in model :)
I have fritzbox 7490 but he does not support VPN pptp

I am sorry to say but Fritzbox can't be connected to our service because of the firmware limitations.
VPN setup that you have on this router is for creating VPN server so you can connect to your home network, or as a VPN client to your company network
did you do the guide in the link provided above or this what you been told from customer support ?
"Connect this FRITZ!Box with a company's VPN "
- The FRITZ!Box behaves like a VPN client (Client-LAN connection).
- The VPN connection can only be established by the FRITZ!Box and not by
the remote VPN server.
- VPN protocols IPSec or XAUTH can be used.
- The VPN connection can be upheld permanently with option "Hold VPN
connection permanently", even during inactivity(Keep Alive).
- If it is possible to use name resolution via the VPN connection (e.g. via
a DNS server in the firm network), it is possible to use domain names
from the remote network. The names will then always be resolved via the
tunnel (and not via the DNS-Referrer of the FRITZ!Box/ISP). Here you
enter domain names that are not known on the Internet (e.g. proxy or
email servers of the firm).
