  • Hey guy's (and gals),

so... I have been researching for quite some time now and honestly... I do not know where to begin. There's a lot of info on the web (here and other places), but most of it is for someone who knows more about this. Can someone point me in the right direction? You can pm me if you want. I understand the basics about utilizing m3u's, setting up PVR's (been through them all), and kodi. I'm comfortable with linux. It's the "TV" aspect I'm lacking on.

  • Ok, for some example.... in the IPTV playlists.. there's some with servers, not m3u's. What am I supposed to do with it. Next... School me up on enigma. dreambox, etc. That's all satellite stuff, right? How does it work. Surely someone has an in depth explanation of the workings of all this mess (not really just an expression).

When i dig around... all I can find is images, card stuff, and what not. Not much for the beginner in this aspect.

  • I am not going to totally babysit you, it's up to you to do your own research via google or the many satellite forums out there. So here is a quick summary

IPTV... These can come in many formats. Here are a few examples of common ones.

single streams.... these will usually end in .m3u8 or .ts

    udp single streams... http://000.000.000.000:0000/udp/000.000.000.000:0000

another type of single stream... http://domain.com:8000/play/a045

playlists (which is a whole bunch of channels) Can also come in various formats.

(type can vary depending on what device its being played on, output is the format that it will stream in. i.e m3u, ts or rmtp.

So how do you use them.

Just paste them into VLC player (ctrl v) and if they are active they will just play.

Most streams only allow 1 user at a time to view the stream. Most of the streams you find on the internet will be getting hammered by mulitple users. They will therefore boot you out from viewing after 10/30/60 seconds. In vlc player you click the repeat loop button to overcome this.

How do you use them on a satellite box. There are many ways to do this.

You either use a script that is provided by the iptv provider.

You can use a 3rd party script like suls m3ubouquets

or you use e-channelizer to create an iptv bouquet from a downloaded playlist.

you use specific plugins like XC plugin.

you can use iptv player plugin and copy them to your usb/hard drive and search for them via the local media folder in the plugin.

You can also check if a stream is active by using one of the many iptv checkers out there. Here is my own new iptv checker. (read the thread on how to use it).

As for getting up to speed with the terminolgy. Google "general sateliite terminolgy kiddac". You will find a thread a wrote a couple of years ago when I was first getting into satellite boxes.

I will now leave you to go do some research ;)

  • Thank you my friend. I am a fast learner, and really I am just asking for a little crash course (cliffs notes) on things, or at least point me in the right direction. I think I have found the thread that you are referencing.
