Pretty basic information that, so I see no other reason for the post.

1) Install Anti-Virus Software

er... the majority of anti virus software is now that bloated, you are just going to slow down your computer.

Windows Defender is now a very adequate antivirus software that will catch the majority of problems. No need for 3rd party antivirus unless you think you have a problem.

Other tools you should have in your arsenal and run regularly though.

I used to recommend cccleaner but as they now force Avast anti virus onto you I only recommend older versions. Anything less than 5.32 will probably be good.

Run windows defender scan, and malwarebytes scan regularly.

4) Keep Your Operating System Current

Don't update to windows update 1809 - it can potentially wipe some of your files.

5) Secure Your Network

Yep - basically change your routers default password if its old.

6) Think Before You Click

Use ad blocker - popups are where most viruses come from.
