In this thread I will share a few tips - the best practice type of tips - as to how to configure your PurE2 best, so it functions at peak efficiency...
Context and principles
PurE2 is a unique image in many respects! That means, it is quite a bit different from all other images, giving users more control over the image than any other team!
One of them is continuing the best of PowerBoard tradition (we are the heirs to its proud name!), when it comes to Device Manager! It gives users the option to kill Automounting/AutoFS, i.e. "dynamic mounting" in favour of fixed mounting, so user knows which device/partition is where and that it will stay like that and no swapping of places will happen, which would render image considerably less functional.
Autodetection of newly connected devices is still there, they will be auto-mounted, but - uniquely, you have the full individual device/partition control, as to how you want them permanently and stably mounted!!! For instance, as /media/hdd or media/usb, i.e. no surprises will happen in terms of devices/partitions swapping places at the next reboot and that is very, very important!
How to kill Automounting
MENU > pManager > Device Manager > Mount Manager > blue button > yellow button (to switch Automount OFF) > Exit > do this for all devices/partitions that you want fixed.
Do not restart PurE2 yet!
Now, mount them as you want them to be - permanently
Mounting devices/partitions in a fixed manner via FSTAB file
This you can do either by using the MENU or the BLUE button, then using the > or < buttons on your remote, changing the mounts, for example like this:
-USB memory stick as /media/usb (there are also usb1, usb2... if you have more than one)
-HDD or SSD (single partition device) as /media/hdd (there are also hdd1, hdd2...)
So, if you have more such devices plugged into your STB you have plenty of options to mount them as you see fit.
When you are done with them all > press OK to write it into the FSTAB file, then you will see a window offering you 3 options > choose RESTART THE BOX. The box reboots.
(If it doesn't work the first time round, the second time it will be as you want it to be!)
Why is this important?
Imagine "dynamic mounting" when you restart and the devices swap places - all your carefully structured folders would not be found. A nightmare for E2, in some cases. Why?
This is how you should structure your PurE2 to have it all functioning well for longer, by not burdening the Flash needlessly and PurE2 can find what it needs with ease...
Do not put picons, SWAP, cache, buffering etc. on devices with moving parts, like HDD. Make and/or direct them to USB sticks (they are cheap and fast nowadays). So:
-SWAP file, if you need it, is made on USB stick. (PurE2 has a SWAP Manager built-in but SWAP Manager 2 works better! You can download it from Plugins > Systemplugins.)
-Picons are kept on USB stick (picon folder is on media/usb/picon - Picon Path plugin is built into PurE2!)
-EPG goes to USB stick > /media/usb (in MENU > Setup > System > EPG > EPG settinsg > button to the right > /media/usb > OK/save)
-FNC Plugins Backup need to be directed somewhere and if you have them on a USB stick you can reuse this after reinstallation of PurE2!
-FNC Plugins Favourites - as above...
-Buffering for E2iPlayer goes to /media/usb/Buffer
-Cache for it also goes to USB stick: /media/usb/E2iP Cache
-Temporary data for E2iPlayer - I recommend /media/usb/Cache or make a folder for it /media/usb/tmp (the default one is limited and E2iPlayer is made to seek for 1,5GB of space).
-Downloads location for E2iPlayer or YIFY-FNC should be /media/hdd.
-Recording and instant recording, plus Timeshift should go to HDD/SSD! Nothing else! (Kodi - if one uses it - will make its hidden folder there, also!)
-MENU > Setup > System > Recoding settings > /media/hdd/movie
-MENU > Setup > System > Timeshift settings > /media/hdd/timeshift
Note: for some of these settings to be changed it is enough to move the cursor on either side of OK button on your remote control.
But for some, like Recording one must press OK button, sometimes several times, go up and down with v and ^ buttons, usually until you see various devices/location you mounted or simply have in your Enigma2 by default, like Internal Flash.
Go to it, press OK > media > and then choose where you want to place/send/direct the items I discussed earlier, as directed by me or as you see fit.
Now, your PurE2 will purr... :rasta2bigsmoke0gf1:
