  • Anyone who knows if there is an upper size limit for external usb-discs on a DB8000?

I have 2 3TB discs that function well, but my internal hard disk contact has stopped working. The easiest way to solve this would be to exchange one of the 3TB usb-discs with a 6TB disc. As far as I know there is a limit of 2TB for the internal discs, but I haven't been able to find any such limits on the external discs. And the only answer I've been given from the supplier is that the maximum size is 2TB, which is obviously not correct, as I'm already using 3TB discs...

  • 2 Tb max... you can use a 6 Tb but it will recognize only 2 Tb.

The 2 Tb is the limit of the Kernel (that it can address), not hardware.

You can try to create 3 partitions of 2 Tb each... perhaps that could circumvent the kernel limit of 2 Tb.

  • Ok, thank you, maybe that could work.

But as told, I'm quite sure it works with more than 2TB, since I'm already using two disks of 3TB, as you can see here:

    root@dm8000:/media# df

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on

    ubi0:rootfs 230380 230076 304 100% /

    devtmpfs 74540 4 74536 0% /dev

    tmpfs 64 0 64 0% /media

    /dev/sdc1 2929981316 2702915760 227065556 92% /media/usb

    /dev/sdb1 2929981316 1662610532 1267370784 57% /media/sdb1

    tmpfs 74648 628 74020 1% /var/volatile

So the limit has to be higher than 2...
