  • hi rikjaar,

thanks for your reply. You are right in that it is a always a function of cash!! as far as i can see, i have a couple of options:
    £70 - £100: Openbox, Dragonbox, etc
£140: TM 800 (seems to be the only one in this price range)
    £200 - £250: Vu+ Solo and Vu+Uno

So do people have experience with the Vu+ boxes? They seem quite popular given the amount of space dedicated to them on this forum! Is the Uno worth the £50 extra? I was hoping to limit my spending to £180-£200... but one can always wait a bit longer to get it.

The hardware spec looks quite a bit better for the Uno as compared with the Solo...

    What do people think/use?

    the feedback is much appreciated.

  • Hello Masterpop,

wait abit longer mate ¬ i i started with a dm500 and an original eagle box - then a tm500s followed by a tm600 and finally made the transition to HD with a tm800 before getting a Vu duo !
Here is a quote From another MOD which i thought was spot on

All about research really - price, quality and features. Personally I find the original Dreamboxes overpriced, but the Vu+ range would always be up there. At the bottom end there are plenty of E2 receivers that are now competing with the non E2 ones, such as the Gigablue, DM800 HD (Dreambox clone) and now even NewDVB DVB800 HD (which is like a clone with its own brand name). I would say always go for an E2 receiver. No point getting an SD box because the HD receivers are not much more now. I have tried non E2 HD receievers, and believe me when I say that if you have had a taste of Enigma2 previously, you will very likely not like what you see if it is anything else.

too me thats sound advice ¬
Your main decisions are really narrowed down to recording ? Yes or No
If yes Then look @ twin tuner type Enigma2 Receivers'

  • hi rikjaard--

after much deliberation - believe me i spent at least a week looking at specs of the boxes on the markets! I wanted HD as a minumum (46" Samsung deserves HD), wasn't too fussed about dual tuner (stops the misus from recording loads of junk!). Anyway, long story short, ended up with a Vu+ Solo for now. Just arrived today :)

Have a TD110 multi LNB set up, main quad Invacom LNB points at 28.2E (Freesat) and another Invacom Twin LNB. Need to align the 2nd LNB to 19.2 and watch some FTA as i get used to the box...... then we see about flashing it, etc etc

opened up the box to check that it's not a clone, all good.
