The script detects the version of python you have installed in your box and installs the required version of the plugin accordingly.

I think that each image has its own panel of information about the receiver, which also includes information about the python version.
If you want to find out manually, connect to the box with telnet and enter the python --version command

If you want to have python 3.x in the box, you have to upload a new image to the box. It is not possible to change only the python itself in a given image from version 2.x to 3.x.
