    I have oscam r11668 installed on a Ubuntu 20.04.1 Lts server that I am playing around with at the moment as my current pc server is now 8 years old and could fall over at any time.

    One thing I noticed that if I put an incorrect reader config in oscam and insert an old card in the omnikey ( old card for testing purpose ) I cannot connect to oscam with the web interface. It appears to refuse to connect for about 30 seconds and then returns ok for about the same time. With a correct config and card, oscam remains running. I have never seen this happen with my old server running r11550 oscam. Maybe I don't need to worry about this at all.

    If you can't connect to OscamWebif, first check that your Oscam build also includes the Webif interface / module. You can find out, for example, with the command:

    /usr/bin/oscam --build-info


    If the Webif module is included in your Oscam, then check the configuration directory. If a directory is defined when running Oscam, with the "-c / directory" argument, then you must place the configuration files there. If no configuration directory is specified, then after startup, Oscam searches for the directory itself - automatically:

    So it is also quite possible that there is already a default configuration in a different directory than yours and that a different port for Webif is specified in the "oscam.conf" file (the default port for OscamWebif is 8888).


    You can also try to find the configuration via the command:

    find / -name "oscam.conf"

    Just to clarify, the OscamWebif works OK but if I insert a ''dud'' card into the omnikey I cannot view oscam with the OscamWebif for abour 30 secs. It then re-appears for about 30 sec's and keeps doing this. The oscam log shows that the oscam has been restarted.

    I might be chasing my tail here and making problems where they do not exist.

    The old card that I inserted in the omnikey ( about 7 years expired ) is Viaccess. My config is for an old NDS card. For some reason oscam restarts when trying to read the card with the incorrect config. I popped an old nagravision card in and oscam remains up on the Webif OK. Maybe this is how things work with the latest oscam.

    I don't know these card encodings, so I can't advise you. Viaccess should work in Oscam, but only under certain conditions and with the appropriate configuration. You also need the correct settings for the external Omnikey reader and maybe Omnikey drivers for your Ubuntu. I can't advise that exactly either, sorry. I do not know or use Omnikey readers.

    I don't think that its a problem. The omnikey and oscam run fine with the proper config and card inserted. I was just using the old viaccess card when I was getting the spare server up and running. I don't use viaccess anyway.

    If you know how to use Shell, you are also experienced enough to manually install a softcam. But it doesn't matter. The important thing is that it works.


    However, IPKs sometimes have a compatibility issue. Unfortunately, many Enigmas use their own "triggers" for softcams and then it doesn't work. Popular Enigms such as OpenPLi and OpenATV already use the same startup method. So Softcam support is built-in. The shell scripts are located with the appropriate name here:

    /etc/init.d/softcam.<softcam-name> 

    Then it is necessary to activate this softcam (installed via IPK or manually) in the GUI MENU (using RCU).
