  • A FEW NOTES ON MOUNTING SYNOLOGY NAS' SHARED FOLDERS IN PURE2

In Synology NAS, with its Linux OS, among other things, one must

    -create shared folders and

    -users, while

-giving both the NAS in general and them (users) static local IP addresses, then

-allow them into the NAS' shared folder, in various ways/places.

Have a look, I got into my Synology NAS via my net laptop/internet browser > input Username/Password > Control Panel and then one starts creating shared folders, users, allowing users into various folders (or not), then editing permissions and various parameters, network characteristics...... There's tons of ways of controlling your NAS - here are some of the steps:

In one's (Windows or otherwise) PC one must allow the NAS in - in the firewall.

If one installs Synology Assistant Windows app one can get into the NAS via Windows Explorer, too (not just via your internet browser), as it installs drivers for Windows to be able to browse a Linux run machine.

Initially, one has to be careful to set it all up precisely, then it's a matter of giving the E2-run machine the same static address, each time one reinstalls Enigma2...

One must also create a user (say, ZgemmaH7 or Edision+) with the correct (static/manual) local network address and give the user all the privileges. You have both special privileges and Linux privileges.

In that case, when Enigma2 scans the local network for shared folders - one can mount NFS shared folders from there, as it is much easier. I do not do it manually, although for Windows shared folders (CIFS) I must do it manually (see below)...

    MENU > Setup > System > Network > Device setup > choose LAN (eth0) or WLAN (wlan0) >

Adapter settings > Use DHCP = NO, then give it a static address

    Nameserver settings > use

    1.1.1.1

    1.0.0.1

    8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4 (as described by me elsewhere...)

Network Browser/Mount Manager > Network Browser (wait for it 'till it scans your local/home network...)

P.S. In NFS/Linux (or Windows/CIFS) - if you set it up properly, as described - there is no need for adding your NAS (or WIndows) username and password, when E2 prompts you to do that.

This is what it looks like when one tries to mount Windows/CIFS shared folder:

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-incurred immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's own understanding without the guidance of another. This immaturity is self-incurred if its cause is not lack of understanding, but lack of resolution and courage to use it without the guidance of another. The motto of enlightenment is therefore: Sapere aude! Have courage to use your own understanding!"

  • Btw, on your STB's/receiver's RCU (Remote Control Unit) one usually has a "File List" or "PVR" or some such button to enter "mounted devices".

Usually, it takes one to /media/hdd or /media folders.

At that point, if one presses the YELLOW button (=Bookmarks) one will be able to choose where to go on the level of the whole of E2.

You will be able to see all the properly mounted devices/partitions or network shared folders.

If one goes to "Internal flash" (/), then to /media > one will usually see:

    -net

    -usb

    -autofs

    -hdd.

If one chooses NET - one can then see all the network attached shared folders here explained... ;)

    Enjoy! :)

P.S. In Windows, for instance, one also has to make various folders "SHARED", of course...
