15 day weather forecast plugin with Infobar or SecondInfoBar weather widget.

Welcome to my new plugin.

What started out as a bit of a quick conversation with Lululla and jenseneverest regarding no great and accurate weather plugins, especially for the UK market, I decided to write my own.

Thanks to lululla and jensen for the beta testing and feedback.

This is a new plugin and my own code and not based on the other infobarweather plugin by scriptmelvin.

Plugin incorporates the use of https://www.visualcrossing.com/ weather api. Visual crossings api is very good at finding your local location and uses multiple nearby weather stations for accuracy.

Free sign up required at https://www.visualcrossing.com/ to get your free API key. No credit card required.

Your personal API key can be entered via the plugin or manually pasting into /etc/enigma2/VisualWeather/apikey.txt

Weather Icons

Icon sets live here: /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/VisualWeather/weather-icons

There are currently 4 icon sets provided in the plugin. 3D - Set 1, 3D - Set 2, Flat, Simple.

Icons have been sourced from free sets available on the net and tweaked by me.

Icons are 96x96 pixels. Except a smaller precipitation icon used in 15 day weather which is 32x32 pixels.

Scaling is turned on in my skin files, but enigma2 scales badly. So best to add any new icons at these sizes.

To add new icon sets add a new folder to the weather-icons folder.

Custom skins
Skins live here: /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/VisualWeather/skins

I provide one default skin set for 15 day, compact widget, full widget

To add a new skin add a new folder to the /skins/ folder.

There a 3 skin files per skin

forecast.xml - 15 day forecast

infobar.xml - full infobar widget

infobarcompact.xml - compact infobar widget

All elements that can be used in any of the 3 screens can be copied from forecast.xml into the other screens.

To allow elements to be used that are not in my default skin for infobar.xml and infobarcompact.xml please turn skin developer mode on in the plugin settings. This option initiates all variables for all screens.

** do note though, unused elements will cause lots of noise in debug logs if you have debug logs turned on **

Visual Weather V1.00

New files on post 1

First release. There may be bugs.

It should work on openatv 6.4 -> 7.1, openvix, OpenBH, Egami, blackhole, Gemini and probably openpli. (and probably most others)

It hasn't been tested yet on mutliple images. That's for you guys to test and give feedback.

Location can be in various formats: local district (skinville) or city (Manchester), or city, country (Manchester, UK) or Postcode. I think you can use zip codes too.

It will also try to correct misspelled locations using clever logic in the api. Cool.

Data refreshes every 15 mins. But this depends on your local weather station on how frequent and up to date the data is.

At to reiterate. You need to get your own free api key from https://www.visualcrossing.com/ for the plugin to work.

Plugin also requires the requests library (** new openpli 8 users **)

I am sure the old metrix hd skin on openatv 6.4 is actually an SD skin. Therefore its trying to fit a 1920 screen into a 1280 screen.

I will load it on my box shortly and see.

I actually dislike putting external file references in my plugins. I get the reason for the request... but...

1) not all images are the same

2) some use hdd, some reference USB
3) openatv broke open file location and it gets confused with virtual keyboard and file manager. (don't know if they ever fixed it)

I have a better plan, as your always asking can things be saved to HDD.

Write a script that every week, copies your etc folder or specific folders to your HDD

upload to your scripts folders. /usr/script Change file permissions to 755

set up a cron to run every week.

and when you refresh your image, just copy them all back.

Simple.

And I know openatv you can actually do this via enigma2
setup > software management > back up system settings.
But that copies everything and is a bit extreme. etc/ home/ temp/ usr/

As far as translations go, I can translate the interface and screens, but some of the weather data descriptions comes from the api.

There is some translations for some of the weather condition texts, but its not complete.
For those you would have to visit their open source translation page.

nope sorry, there is only 3 base metric units

US / metric / UK

There is a possible another 4th one: base
but that shows the wind speed at meters per second, but the temperatures in kelvin scale.

Mile per hour to meters per second is roughly 2:1
Kilometers per hour to meters per second is roughly: 4:1

you will have to just do some mental maths

Files on post 1 have been updated and now include translation files for polish darog69 , finnish Orlandox , turkish biperva , and we already got italian Lululla . Thanks.

Some of those finnish ones might be a little too long. You will have to check and shorten them if necessary.

Also added the .deb file too.

Yeah I appreciate translations, and some times they will have to be tweaked.

But as a general rule, try to keep the translated text roughly the same character length. (even if that means skipping works or shortening words)

I designed my layouts based on the English text. So you gotta to squash things in, in the same space.

The moon phase text slot is very small. So translating that might be difficult to fit in.

Maybe just translate

1st Quarter (First Quarter)
Full (Full Moon)
3rd Quarter (Last Quarter)
New (New Moon)

and the waxing and waning ones just have a space character and show nothing.

There is too many graphic elements in this to also make an SD version.

But you could try making one yourself with my skin converter
Enigma2 1080 Skin Converter

download (make a backup copy) and run the visualweather folder through it. Select 1080 on load then convert with 720hd button.

It pretty much converts to SD 100% apart from the main menu.
