  • Hmmm. Interesting... very interesting.

OK following on the conversation from yesterday, where my backdrop images are broke for my iptv plugins and top picks plugins.

I did some, step by step investigations. By installing plugins and skins one by one and keep checking to see if anything broke xtreamity backdrops.

This was still on openatv 7.5 and not openatv 7.5.1

Now nothing in feeds tended to break anything. Managed to install all my plugins that are available and all my skins. Plus my usual plugins, internet speed test, epg importer, cache flush etc.

But installing kiddac_skin_essentials ipk via telnet with opkg install then things broke. :smiling face with halo:  :thinking face:

So I uninstalled it via opkg. Its still broke. So did the opkg command break it. Did my ipk break it. Or did my kiddac skin essentials break it somehow. Although at this point, I never turned anything on in my skin essentials plugin.

  • Actually by the looks of it there were some remnants left over from kidda skin essentials. I deleted them and now I got backdrops again.

I am totally confused at this point of what the issue is. I have never had this issue before and obviously I have always used my own kidda skin essentials

Sometimes better to remove via plugins and then also manually delete folder from Root\usr\lib\enigma2\python\Plugins\Extensions

I have noticed this before because your plugins that are on feed then no problems when unninstalling because the there are no .py files only.pyc as already compiled.
But plugins downloaded from forum have .py files and when you unninstall if i remember the some .pyc files are left I think because when installing system just remembers .py files to remove .

Same as when I installed enigma2-plugin-skins-slyk1080r19_2.33.20250828_all.ipk from forum as in just to update had some problems had to uninstall older version and that was from feeds think it was toppics files .

  • I was only able to break it once in openatv 7.5 and that was the first time installing kiddac skin essentials.
After uninstalling, clearing files, clearing settings file. Any other attempts via manually copying files across or reinstalling ipks again didn't cause an issue.

So lets see if its the same scenario with openatv 7.5.1

I have never had any problems with settings i.e in enigma2 settings file or backups stored from enigma2 when doing flashonline with restore settings as actuall plugins are installed from scratch so no remnants left. And as I mentioned before my plugins that are not in feed are stored in

/Harddisk/images/ipk folder there are installed automatically when you flashonline

    Capture.PNG

and also with myrestore file system is almost setup again as was but for one newvirtualkeyboard I always need to go into it and change it from system virtual keyboard to newvirtualkeyboard one .

  • Ok I think I might have got to the bottom of this image issue now.

Supposedly my dinobot 4k/Anadol 4k has got 1 GByte of Ram

Var/Volatile folder uses this ram, but it only designates 406.6m to this folder.

tmpfs on /var/volatile type tmpfs (rw,relatime,size=416392k,nr_inodes=104098)

When reflashing images - despite me saying otherwise in my openatv setup guide. Out of laziness I tend to install multiple things at once. Extension plugins / System Plugins / Skins etc.

I think my backdrop images weren't downloading correctly because I store my backdrop images in the var/volatile/tmp/[plugin]/ folder to process them.
I think basically I had just run out of RAM space.

Lots of junk was left over in this folder - I am pretty sure I restarted GUI, and maybe fully rebooted to. But I don't think it cleared properly.

So with some proper house keeping, everything seems to be working correctly on openatv 7.5 and open 7.5.1

Has something changed regarding clearing the tmp folder (RAM), which should clear on a reboot. I don't know, but I have never had this happen before in all the years I have been doing this.

So in summary - It wasn't my nemisis' fault. It isn't Skin Essentials IPK causing problems. The code for toppicks and my iptv plugins is fine. But maybe I should move that processing to the etc folder which in theory should be larger on the majority of boxes rather than the limited temp folder. The whole point of me saving them to temp folder was to avoid overloading memory. It seems saving them to temp folder is actually using the same memory so that was a bit pointless.

And to prove a point I have just copied over half a gig to my etc folder. No problems
Just tried copying half a gig over to tmp folder. It fails and repeatedly tries to start the copy again as there isn't enough space.

  • Is it just me, or do the images no longer download / update?

    :thinking face:

Mine seem fine this morning. As those sports channels are the correct programmes. But I will check if any of the links are dead.

What are you using Sky or OSN. And which categories have you chosen? Ev0

You can also manually download the images via the plugin in plugin browser.
Click download images - exit and re-enter plugin. Click refresh images.

The data files then live in  /etc/enigma2/e2sentials
You can delete those .json files and see if they get re-made.

  • It hasn't updated for about a week for me.

I have it set to Sky,

    Documentaries
    Crime
    Nature
    Cinema
    Entertainment

I have Sports and Kids disabled.

  • No errors are being reported in logs.

Try deleting those 2 json files mentioned above.

    And manually run it.

The auto update is still working for me. Mine is set for 10.09am each day. My files had this time stamp.

And auto update only runs if your box is on at that time. So maybe change the auto time if you turn your box off regularly.

** A person who feels appreciated will always do more than what is expected **

  • I deleted the 2 files and they get replaced.

I have it set to update 6:37am each day and it was fine, but as said not updated for about a week now, box is never off.

I just ran enigma in debug and got this error:

    Code
    >>> Error: [<Plugins.Extensions.KiddaC_Skin_E2sentials.Task.AbortedPostcondition object at 0xa4dcca40>]

So I will remove and reinstall the plugin as it's obviously an issue my end (which is fine).
