set up help.... much appreciated

after some support an help with my 102e?? got some basic grounding an understandings about them but i need to no which firmware to use is it best to vreate my own channel list etc??? i have a good it background but still after looking on here im slighty dump founded... ooooooooooppppppppppssssss
