  • Have been having a look round with the view to buying a new receiver in the next few weeks to have a play with.

I have been looking at the Optibox EVO M7 HD with quite a bit of interest. Anybody know whos selling them.
No point in telling me that Lavatronics sells them as there's no way on earth that i would give that knob jockey anymore of my money.

I have a few receivers in mind to play with so its no major loss if i can't get one, i'm just a little intrigued to see how good or bad this box actually is and to if this MARA firmware will be annoying as Spark is on the Amiko Alien.

  • After looking around it seems to be another box pretty much from the same Stable as the Amiko Alien. The receiver can be purchased in many guises like the Odin M7, and the Galaxy Inn***tions Genius.

I cannot find much info about the Mara OS other than it appears to support the usual hbbtv, youtube etc etc just like Spark does. On the negative side it doesn't appear to support and softcams at this moment in time. The only plus side i can find is that it does appear to be supported at the moment by Open AAF and Open Pli, but its anybodies guess how long this support will last.

I don't think i'll bother with this box in all honesty. The more i read up about it the more i dislike it, Its not one for me. If its anything to go by other dual boot receivers, its going to be problematic just like the Alien 2. Its just going to be a case of wait and see with this one to see if its going to be a success or another flyby night receiver that will disappear after a year or so.

  • I just purchased one and there is softcam support for optibox evo m7. You can flash the openatv image for the en2 side of optibxo evo m7.
This image has everything you need including softcam, plugins, autobouquetsmaker, info panel, media center, and so on.
It's just a matter of having to learn step by step how to use this full hd receiver to its maximum capacity.

I have been a linux user for a long time, and I personally would strongly like to recommend the optibox evo m7.
For less experienced users, they can use the OS1 software. (This has also various cams functions with a smart portal, youporn, redtube, youtube, etc)
For expert users like me, we can use the En2 Software. (I strongly recommend openatv image for odinm7. openATV Forum)

  • Does the basic Mara OS support softcams. I know the E2 images will, i just couldn't find any info regarding the Mara OS.

  • For what it costs i would look at buying one of the more well known and supported receivers like the Octagon SF8.
