  • hi guys i have my own server now i have a few friends connected and over the last few days they are getting small glitches i thought it was cache but it turns out to be my internet. so the question is how important is and good internet when having a server. my download today is 6 meg ping 111ms upload 0.5

could this be the reason for them getting glitching?

  • your ping is very high m8 you realy want a ping of around 20- 35 ms where you are testing this is also a factor 0.5 mb upload isnt very good for running a server it will work with not too many people on but your big factor is your ping time you need to test and make sure else where speedtest.net has a link to ping test .net try that and make sure , but with 0.5 mb upstream and your ping has to be good and nothing else running on the line maybe 10 peers without glitching , someone can correct me if im wrong ,

  • ping 258ms jitter 78 it looks like this could be my problem as that is very high any ideas other than change to fibre as i'm doing that on the 9th

  • jitter is normaly 1-2 ms on a good line 258 ms even higher now than before , take it you on adsl , and on the outer limits have you tried another modem/router and filters , best test if yo can is take out the faceplate from the master socket and plug direct into the master with a filter removing all extentions , and see if you have the same result , asuming your are adsl i found in the past the best modem router at distance was the white thomson tg585 i think it was 587 maybe off the top of my head , but test direct off the master socket first then speak to your isp then maybe try another router , i have loads up the loft , if you are able to get fibre i would it doesnt cost much more than adsl

  • thanks m8 i'll try all that now i'll switch my users over to a vps that i set up a few weeks ago to tinker with but never used since and try out a few tests.
yes i have ordered fibre i'm getting it in on th 9th of april so at the worst will have to work with it until then ;(
