stuck on startup

    well my inexperience has shown, been playing around with the box for last couple of days, all fine, got up this morning, had a picture but couldnt change channels, think it was parsing status bar at bottom of screen that had froze, rebooted and kept getting green crash log screen, eventually started but had no channels,
    did a software update now box is stuck in startup mode
    any advice for this inexperienced user would be great

    Plugins are installed to internal flash memory by default, so unless you used something like flashexpander plugin nothing will be installed to the HDD..

    Doesn`t matter how much memory is available on the HDD, it`s internal flash that matters..


    In telnet run command free and paste the output here..

    Access telnet with putty or Dreambox Control Center.. At this point forget about telnet until you get the image working properly..


    Possible this a clone receiver and from a payserver, am i correct ?


    I don`t think there is any way to recover from this other than a complete reflash.. Choose one of the latest images from Here BlackHole and OpenViX are popular.. You may need to upgrade the bootloader as well, get it Here..

    still having a bit of trouble, did the flash using the above link, works ok, when i try and connect box to my laptod i keep getting this error msg


    Response: 220 Welcome to the vuplus FTP service!
    Command: USER user
    Response: 331 Please specify the password.
    Command: PASS *****
    Response: 530 Login incorrect.
    Error: Critical error
    Error: Could not connect to server


    ive tried using passwords that have been mentioned in other threads and still comes up with the same error msg

    Normally images use:
    USERNAME :root
    PASSWORD :dreambox


    But some images leave the password blank (ie no password)


    So you might need to set a password via a telnet session before you can use FTP because E2 does not accept FTP anon or blank pwd connections.


    If you flashed ViX then I belived the above follows because the pswd on ViX is left blank. On BH I think it is still dreambox?

    i have tried using dreambox and leaving it blank still nothing,
    how would i set a password via telnet, i am very much a novice with this sort of thing

    If DCC go into telnet window. If other make connection first.
    Type 'passwd' enter
    input new password of your choice
    input it again
    system message "Password has been changed"


    Reconnect DCC FTP should now work

    Sorry but it has just struck me that what is weird to me here about all this is that I have never had to do any of this? Did you reboot the box a second time after you flashed it? Which image did you choose in the end?


    I ask because I have experienced on some images that stuff like FTP and/or SMB don't work after first boot but do after a second. So this may be worth trying out first.

    connected to dcc via ftp, but not telnet, briefly connects to telnet for about a second and will not let me input txt in the telnet box
