Adding Native Linux Applications my Satellite Receiver

  • Folks,

Just bought a Vu+ Solo2 from world of satellite and am totally delighted.

The available plugins are brilliant and the box is remarkably quick.

But now have set myself a little test project so that I can learn a bit more. Want to create a script that automatically logs into an available hotspot to gain internet access. (BT WiFi) Can use the opera browser but looking for something more automated/user friendly for the family...

Initially thoughts of maybe using python as standard on the box or maybe something like Curl.

But this has opened up a few queries. Are there any package managers installed on these boxes? If not, am I just best compiling from source code? Or as i notice GCC is not available on the box, do I need to cross compile and copy to the receiver?

Suppose my main question really is, what is the standard approach to installing native Linux applications on a Linux box?

Any suggestions would be greatly received!

    Kind Rgds,

    Plout
