    Introduction¶

The addon p2p-streams in windows can run acestreams and sopcast streams "natively" in xbmc since version 0.1.8. No configuration is needed for acestreams, as the addon bundles its own acestream engine which is stored in the userdata folder. However, SopCast requires a some configuration steps. Those are identified below.

    Configuring SopCast¶

    1) First you need to download and install the sopcast software. You can download it from http://sopcast.org/download/win.html

    2) After the installation has been completed, you need to start sopcast and make some changes. Select:

-Autologin in this computer (can be in anonymous mode)

    How does it work?¶

The addon uses the Microsoft Srvany tool to create a service for the official sopcast program. It defines the permissions of this service to be started/stoped by any regular user on the computer. When playing a sopcast stream, the addon will modify the regedit associated with this particular service, changing the sop:// url parameter which it uses to start the service. Furthermore, a socket is created to check if the stream port has been opened.
