Have you set the recording paths?
If you cannot see that option change the setup mode to expert then reboot & it will be available. -
Thanks for your help
I have checked below is what they saydefualt movie location /hdd/movie
timer record location /hdd/movie
instant record location /hdd/movie
timeshift location /media/hddis this correct ?

No you will need to change this to what your device is mapped as e.g media/usb/movies

Look for mountpoints under devices.
in device manager it recognises my drive but says not mounted it also says partition has windows
when i click it i get the options below1 i will go back
2 format partition sdb1
3 add swapfile on sdb1
4 mount partition sdb1 to /autofs/sdb1
5 file system consistency chack on sdb1not sure which to select

You want to mount it, box will reboot automatically you can then set recording paths.
-
when i press 4 mount it goes back to the previos screen after a few seconds still the same unfortunatly
think i need to format it to fat32 ? -
You should be able to initlize the HDD from within your menu, this will format it to linux so the box can recognise it, then setup mountpoints.
