The Stone Roses Announce Live Return - Watch Press Conference Now

Earlier today Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni held a press conference at London's Soho Hotel to announce they will play two massive shows at Manchester's Heaton Park in June 2012 as part of a new world tour. The foursome also revealed that fans can look forward to brand new material!

Following days of rumours, The Stone Roses have now officially revealed they will play two huge homecoming shows at Manchester's 70,000 capacity Heaton Park in June 2012. In addition to the tour announcement, the legendary Manchester group also confirmed they will be releasing new material in time for the live shows next year.

Laughing and joking with reporters The Stone Roses also revealed that, in addition to the Manchester shows, MORE dates for the UK and Ireland are expected to be announced over the next few months. There is also a possibility of a festival performances in Summer 2012. Stay tuned to Stereoboard for details on further Stone Roses live dates as soon as they are announced!

The new shows will see the foursome play classic anthems as well as new songs, however, when asked about the possibility of a new album Ian Brown said: "We hope so, but we said that before didn't we?" He added: "We'll ride this until the wheels come off, like we did last time."

The band, who said today’s music was 'boring' and ‘corporate’, called their announcement of the reunion shows a 'live resurrection'. Brown also added that their intention is to “uplift the national mood in hard times”. Brown continued, "We (originally) wanted to announce our re-union the day after the riots."

Earlier this year quarrelling band members John Squire and Ian Brown buried the hatchet at the funeral of band member Mani's mother. The singer and guitarist had not spoken to each for over 15 years. That development, followed by the scheduling of a press conference by the band today, led to the rumours that something BIG was to be announced by The Stone Roses.

Rumours of a reunion have emerged and dissolved constantly over the years, the last being earlier this year in April which eventually came to nothing. This time, things are different! For more details on the reunion, check out the group's brand new website www.thestoneroses.org.

The Stone Roses UK Live Dates are as follows:

    June 2012

June 29th – Heaton Park, Manchester
June 30th – Heaton Park, Manchester
