ZGemma Star H1 Bootloader issue

    Hi Everyone,


    I've got a ZGemma Star H1 which was Running OpenVIX. I say "was" as I was taking a backup image (which I always thought was a good idea), but the backup seemed to stick at 18%, then eventually displayed a timeout error. It displayed what I thought were image files that it had made, so I set about deleting them.


    Big mistake.


    The box froze and the front panel said "boot" and that was it.


    I've downloaded the latest VIX image from the zgemma.tv website, and extracted to the zgemma folder on a newly-formatted USB stick, and tried to get it to boot without success. I've tried formatting as FAT32 and NTFS (the zgemma upgrade notes PDF doesn't make it clear what file system to use), and neither works.


    Basically, on power-up it just says "boot". I've tried pressing the power button for ages, in the hope of seeing USB, but nothing - it's stuck on boot.


    I'm sure I've got the correct folder structure on the USB (i.e. zgemma\h1), so I can only conclude the bootloader is screwed, and I now am the proud owner of a little white brick :72:.


    I've seen a post about hooking up a serial line which I assume would get me the console, but I doubt Linux is even running a console as the bootloader is screwed. Does anyone know of a way to install the bootloader (I'm assuming this is via the RS232 adapter circuit mentioned in another thread).

    First: ViX tean don't support the zgemma.
    You are sure that the receiver is brikked?
    You've tried it with another image?
    You try to format the usb stick in fat32 and insert it in the rear.

    I was using VIX on the box just fine. I realise it might not be an official image or supported server, but it was fine until I tried to use the VIX, backup option. I think it timed out, and listed files which I now guess were boot loader files in flash memory. I deleted them thinking they were backup files, and that's my fault!


    I've read about getting a TTL to serial board and I assume I can interact with the basic boot loader from there. I've got boot loader files and VIX images from zgemma, so it looks like I need to buy a TTL to RS232 converter. Fortunately, I'm old school so I can understand RS232 (I even have a breakout box), so I'll try that.


    I must admit I like VIX. I previously used OpenATV and that was far more CPU hungry. If only I had a box to run it on!


    What options do I have for VIX boxes - any recommendations?
