DNS problems with BT this morning

Hey all, anyone else having problems with BT this morning ?

For me only half the sites i visit are loading, obviously i can get on here (most important), earlier google wouldn't even load for me, i still can't access my bank, twitter and many other sites

I have had this problem only once before a couple of years ago and it was reported as a BT DNS server issue, if i switch to a vpn or 4G all sites load, so it seems to be a problem with BT again

I know i can switch to Google's public dns, but then there are privacy concerns in doing that

Anyone else having problems?

Morning mate.Just got up and picked up my iPad as it's a bit of a habit and noticed your post.Before I logged on here I logged into my Lloyds account to see how much I didn't have and I logged in no probs.Have just tried other sites and everything seems ok.

thanks robocop, seems it is just me, i have been breached lol

it is weird when i switch to google's public dns the sites that wouldn't load start working but the ones that were working before are no longer working :06:

hopefully it resolves itself soon, i really can't cope with BT call center's

BT call centre on a Sunday morning??It'll push you over the edge!!I had a router problem about six mths back and I told them as much but obviously they are reading from a script (Have you done this?Have you done that?)You know,the blatantly obvious things.In the end they sent me a new router which I had mentioned half an hour earlier in the interrogation.Enjoy your day!

I don't use BT, but what about setting BT as your primary and adding google just as a secondary?

Yeh good advice cheers joeuser, i have tried google as my primary and found some sites not opening, but will give your suggestion a try, appreciate the suggestion :thumb:

[1] The free DNS servers listed above as Level3 will automatically route to the nearest DNS server operated by Level3 Communications, the company that provides most of the ISPs in the US their access to the Internet backbone.




[2] Google also offers IPv6 public DNS servers: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844.




[3] DNS.WATCH also has IPv6 DNS servers at 2001:1608:10:25::1c04:b12f and 2001:1608:10:25::9249:d69b. In an uncommon but much appreciated move, DNS.WATCH publishes live statistics for both of their free DNS servers. Both servers are located in Germany which could impact performance if used from the US or other remote locations.




[4] OpenDNS also offers DNS servers that block adult content, called OpenDNS FamilyShield. Those DNS servers are 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123. A premium DNS offering is also available, called OpenDNS Home VIP.




[5] The Norton ConnectSafe free DNS servers listed above block sites hosting malware, phishing schemes, and scams, and is called Policy 1. Use Policy 2 (199.85.126.20 and 199.85.127.20) to block those sites plus those with pornographic content. Use Policy 3 (199.85.126.30 and 199.85.127.30) to block all previously mentioned site categories plus those Norton deems "non-family friendly." Be sure to check out the list of things blocked in Policy 3 - there are several controversial topics in there that you may find perfectly acceptable.




[6] GreenTeamDNS "blocks tens of thousands of dangerous websites which include malware, botnets, adult related content, aggressive/ violent sites as well as advertisements and drug-related websites " according to their FAQ page. Premium accounts have more control.




[7] Register here with SafeDNS for content filtering options in several areas.




[8] The DNS servers listed here for OpenNIC are just two of many in the US and across the globe. Instead of using the OpenNIC DNS servers listed above, see their complete list of public DNS servers here and use two that are close to you or, better yet, let them tell you that automatically here. OpenNIC also offers some IPv6 public DNS servers.




[9] FreeDNS says that they "never log DNS queries." Their free DNS servers are located in Austria.




[10] The censurfridns.dk DNS servers are uncensored, operated by a privately funded individual, and are physically located in Denmark. You can read more about them here. IPv6 DNS servers are also available at 2002:d596:2a92:1:71:53:: and 2001:67c:28a4::.




[11] Hurricane Electric also has an IPv6 public DNS server available: 2001:470:20::2.




[12] puntCAT is physically located near Barcelona, Spain. The IPv6 version of their free DNS server is 2a00:1508:0:4::9.

Thanks Joeuser, i have been trying a few from this list and what i am finding is that half the sites work and half don't, it is very confusing

I need to go out for an hour or so, so will turn off the router and leave it off while i am out and try again when i get back

I am not sure about BT, but some providers block some or all other DNS servers. (They like to inject their own re-directs when a lookup fails - usually to their own advertising...)

Left the HH5 unplugged for over an hour, still the same when i have returned and tried again, no matter what dns settings i use i get similar results

I am using a vpn now and can browse all sites without any issues, but i shouldn't have to do this

What troubles me more, is that i can't find any trace on the net of anyone else suffering the same problems today, BT often has problems with it's DNS servers and the fix has always been to use Googles, but thats no real improvment

EDIT.... 35 minutes conversation with BT, call center destination unknown, they have admitted they are experiencing problems with their domain named servers (again) and hope to have things resolved within 48 hours

If that is the case, why is there nothing up on their site stating there is a problem and why is nobody else experiencing these problems

Oh well, will have to do some diy today

Cause there been targeted by outside sources for non net neutrality & bowing to STATE survalance and there corporate policies on handing data over without question ?

or there just shite ....... who knows dom dom dommmmmmmmm :) , most likly the first ;) lol

All sorted now, was a fault with BT (as suspected), put a ticket in at 12.34pm and just come back now, happy days :17_002:
