When you first start to put the usb memory stick, turn on the Devices Manager (2 x blue) and mount the drive as / media / hdd and flash drive as a media / usb.

Inspired by my former draft of DFC (Dreambox Control Flash), I converted the Flash interface as a standalone application. The name DAC stands for Dreambox Air Control 'and provides an innovative interface to control the Dreambox.
DAC is based on Adobe AIR. This enables Flash applications or apps to run as a local application on a PC. There is no need for more browsers. The results show significant performance gains, and allows a greater scope for creative design possibilities. The web interface plugin is still needed on the Dreambox. This is the communication interface to the DAC ago. It supports all Dreamboxes with Enigma2.
Version 1.2 and live streams or images can have preferential Media Player (bsplw. VLC, Windows Media Player, etc.) for streaming. Possible by the process native support for Adobe Air 2 Other media formats such as mp3, avi, ts, mp2, divx no problem.
Note for Mac OS users. Please use the media player settings with the full path to the VLC player.

I would take it out. Grab the Gpated live disk and format to native linux format (ext3 )
DaiC1's method will probably work but why format a HDD you are installing inside a linux box to any other filesystem.
I thought the same when i first got one living in a block of flats with my dish mounted on the back wall bang in the middle of 5 neighbours living room windows.
My neighbours tell me they havent heard a sound, I hear it turning myself but only if i mute the telly with the window open. Hope this helps
