Just so you know, there is no such thing as a digital aerial.
Try unplugging the aerial, if the picture improves it would suggest that your modulator output is close or on top of a digital MUX. Adjust the modulator output to a different channel and retune your tv accordingly.
Another possibility is, you mention fitting a 5 way booster, it's possible you have too much signal which will introduce noise onto your system, try replacing the booster for a splitter.

Have a look out the window when it goes wrong see who's cars are about, had an issue once similar to yours where by a car had a speed camera detector that was interfering with the signal. Only happened when they came home.

But there was an plugin that allowed xbmc plugins to run on enigma2 boxes. haven't heard much about it lately, so don't know if it still works.

    This was said in January.

Former Eurosport MotoGP commentator Toby Moody will not be tranferring his voice to the new BTSport operation for the 2014 season. He took to Twitter earlier on today to state he is not in the running for the job. He has been the Eurosport voice since 1996 alongside anorak and colour man Julian Ryder. "I will not part of the UK commentary line-up for MotoGP in 2014. I've worked on MotoGP for 18 years, something I'm very proud of. I'll still be around so will see more great racing. I will return to a TV screen near you very soon; you guys will know first when I do," Moody Tweeted. Speculation still surrounds who will take over, with smart money going on a Steve Parrish/Keith Heuwen commentary team and Matt Roberts and Neil Hodgson looking after studio/pitlane duties. BSN wants Ian Wheeler in pitlane for the show. - See more at:

After 40 years, yes a new aerial and cable is advisable. You may not need a booster, too much signal can cause problems.
How many TV's are you running off 1 aerial?
Bear in mind, Since switchover DTT signal strengths have been drastically increased, you can quite easily run 4 tv' off 1 aerial and a good 4 way splitter.
