That's a really great tutorial, just going through some of the posts, some of my questions answered,,, like can it be done on a 32 bit machine, seems it can so Im in luck.

    Hi lads,
I am (as title suggests) an absolute beginner.
I bought (maybe a bit prematurely) an Omnikey 3121 card reader

I am waiting to get a Technomate receiver... that purchase is a few weeks away yet due to funds...

I do have a Ferguson Ariva 252 unit at the moment.

I have a laptop which I can use for Linux, it currently runs Windows.

I have searched the firums in the hope of finding a complete idiots guide to cardsharing BUT I was overwhelmed with all the jargon.

Is there a really easy to understand guide to sharing my card around the house?

Can I do it with Windows or do I need to run Linux on the laptop?
I did set up a Linux server a year ago despite not really knowing what I was doing, and my wife runs Ubuntu on her old laptop and loves it, as when she was running windows it kept freeaing and was always problemartic, so do I neet to run Ubunto or Ubuntu server?

Again a real idiots guide would really help.

Sorry if this seems lazy but I did search this forum but was getting confused, I even looked up youtube to see if I could find a step by step video to no avail.

Any helpful leads you can throw at me will be appreciated.

PS I am currently reading this thread http://linuxsat-support.com/showthread.php?t=69289

Very helpful and detailed info there lads, helped a lot, glad I found this forum as I was intending on buying an Alien 2 box today... think I'll hold off a while, I did look at the Technomate TMNano 3T Combo again and it looks like I may have to wait a few weeks more to get it, that said though what would be the best firmware to opt for in the drop down menu of the sellers website?

I see 3 options Factoty (speaks for itself)
    Vix
    Open ATV

Im really new to this so havent had a whole lot of time to look into the differences but if anybody can suggest which is the better one to go for that'd be great.

OK, I wasnt aware of a stability issue with the Amiko box, that said the nano is a bit over budget for me im afraid, my budget is 150 euro, or 110 pounds. Any idea as to why the Alien is problematic? I seen it reviewed in a magazine and it was all singing, all dancing.... What about the Ferguson Ariva 252, any ideas on the stability of this one?

Also, seen a video on an Irish sat store doing a video on Alien 2 versus Edision Optimuss OS3, and he said the Edision is 3 times faster than the Alien2,,,, any thoughts on this Edision box?

Nice setup, even the mobile magnetic stinger cb antenna.... if youre into cb get yourself an imax 2000, that will give the neighbours something to talk about :-)

Hi guys, if its the original MX box which were originally Matricom boxes but were returned and refurbished and sold from China then from what Ive seen theres no way to flash these ones as no firmware exists, only Matricom firmware which is seemingly not compatible with the old refurbished box... If somebody can prove this to be untrue then happy days, it will mean I can flash my old MX...

Im interested in getting a box too, I do have a Ferguson Ariva for Free to air satellite and feed from outdoor antenna but am interested in delving further into this exciting hobby... I was looking at an AMIKO alien 2 with spark and enigma programmed onto it but am unsure if this box will be capable of the oscam / cline stuff Ive read about? also Im interested in sharing my card from the main box to the ferguson or Amiko alien 2 if thats possible... so I preempted that by ordering a card reader from another link found on this very informative forum. Any help with chosing a deacent receiver would be great... my needs are must have twin or triple tuner and be capable of receiving uhf broadcasts from my external antenna aswell as the sat.

Hi, I too have a Minix Neo 8 and can say its super fast and responsive, I also have a CS918 (original one) which works just as well as the Minix but sometimes freezes and needs to be rebooted, also have an MX Box, the original one which was originally returns to Matricom that were rebadged and sold as low ens android tv boxes... this was sloooow... think they have released a new one which looks promising but with 3 allready the wife said NO MORE.
