Exactly right, this is how Kudelski rolled out nagra 1 to nagra 3 as we know it almost a decade ago in 2008/9 so nothing strange about it.

To answer your weird question...afaik oscam is oscam... it depends how you setup your configs whether you want to use it as server/client.

Ftp to usr/bin
Change name of working oscam-emu
Copy new oscam-emu to usr/bin and change name to match
Change file permissions to 755
Reboot box
Go to softcam panel and choose the softcam
Start the cam
"No active cam" message appears
I notice the new oscam-emu I transfer over has different Owner/Group permissions than the old one, not sure if that matters ? The working one is 1000 1000 and the new one is 0 0.
Thought maybe it was because I was using a Ubuntu machine so tried on a Windows machine and it was the same problem.
What can I do to get this to work ?
Try this one mate/ set permissions and rename etc
Where did you obtain your updated binfile from? and what are you using oscam on...ubuntu linux machine or an octagon e2 box..
Might be something simple like the bin requiring simplebuild script commands or as said above wrong file selected.

there is nothing speciall about the cable tv in uk just begin of patching security now just after sky attack , in every countries deffected by chipset pairing and other security measures for keept a whole market stable they cant patch security just in sky and leave opened cable tv
and even if cable operator has still some boxes with externall smartcards - those smartcards will be replaced to the merlin and run with cak7 kernel at the beginning of next year or even at the end of current year , some people have done some of sattelite providers running with merlin but they are using old cwpk keys extracted from old receivers unfortunatelly almost all cable operators does not have old boxes with needed data to get so this will be totall game over with them :(
Yup.. cak7 has been used in certain countries as an anti-cs measure for a couple of years now with nagravision and has been succesful so far as the algorithm is so far unknown...cak7 = new pairing method between card and reciever.. however in the uk stbs are being activated without the use of smartcards so there is no need to change pairing methods whatsoever.
As far as i can see without proper logs it looks like they have changed caids internally on the decoders only so far and thats enough to stop cs on the provider as there is no card to find algorithms for, or use in any way.
Caid 1841 rom180 was a basterdised combination of nagravision and seca but you are correct as it is otherwise known as merlin... or nagra 3 in the world of us guys.
I have seen countless issues with sky q mini boxes connected via wifi and the way to sort it is the way bodiddly has sorted his via hardwire.
The mad thing is...sly recommend and seem god dalm intent in telling us to connect via wifi as they believe its better... someone needs their baws felt at sly as its just stupid.
Anyway wifi is old technology...the sooner bluetooth is incorporated into our routers/xboxes/remote controls etc the better

Some cisco's dont need cards true, but there are other models that have to have a card to work......

I,m not trying to shoot you down and i really do hope your right jensen but nobody from the 00012 area has confirmed any official box works solely with a smartcard...
Not only that,, from what i can gather it looks like the encryption is sent in the 1850 caid through the netid frequency streams anyway so it does not matter what working card you might have at your disposal so any boxes requiring the viewing card will be obliterated and upgraded.
If boxes are being activated without a card and streams are new 1850 caid there is nothing to attack/use so i think its game over but over to you.....

Jenseneverest i think your valuation is a little over what you think the box is worth...its 2nd hand and your also not sure if the remote is original which wont bother me tbh as long as it works.
I think you need to take a £100 quid hit on this, just my opinion, anyway i wont beat about the bush... i,ll make an offer of £120 mate via bank transfer but i will also pay for postage and packaging on top of my offer.
Extremely unlikely, catv is tied to netid for specific areas so you are wasting your time and the ops time unless you are certain of the netid/frequency on the area.
