Sorry guy's, I know I'm drilling this to death but I wanna be sure. Have just been talking to a couple of sat guy's that live in town near me. They are telling me to steer clear of motors because I live near the sea, they've had call backs because of salt air messing with the motors. Anyone on here had any such problems ?

Just the lnb so far, the dish and motor were only as an example, I have found a cheaper technomate motor on fleabay( same specs), and am looking local for a triax dish.

    Yup i'm with Dream!

    Nice set up mate!

Wish I had guidance like this when i first set up!

Well, glenview, I used to be shy on the forums, but if ya don't ask, you'll never learn. I've learned a hell of a lot since coming on this forum, let it be with pm's or posting silly question's, but have not been knocked back once by anyone and that's the great thing about this site. All the experienced ppl realise that they too were new to this once and really treat new ppl with respect. Which is why I ask the questions now lol. Trust me, I've been to a few site's where you dare not ask anything. So a big hooray for linuxsat !!!!

I have had both systems myself. I started off with a 4 way diseqc switch system, which gives you instant switching between satellites as already mentioned. The thing to remember when setting it up is that east and west swap places when you are setting up your LNB's due to the fact that your dish acts in the same way as a mirror. Without that bit of vital knowledge you will be messing about for hours trying to set up your LNB's. I personally changed to a motorised system because I realised that there was a lot of good stuff that I could not get, so I upgraded. It is fairly straight forward to set up a motorised system just follow the instructions in the motors manual and configure you satellite box for a motorised system. As for a dish go for a known make like Triax (mentioned by Hacksat), my dish is a Gibertini which is very well made. For a motor you need to make sure that it has metal gears not plastic especially if you live in a windy area, you also need to make sure that the motor is big enough for your dish. I have a Technomate TM2200 motor, which I have found to be very reliable. You will also need a good low db LNB, I use an Inverto myself. I hope this helps you a bit.

Cheers for that, wouldn't have had a clue about the mirror thing. Nice one Cyborg.

So you reckon that kit's ok apart from the mount ?. I know by the time I buy the kit for the multi sat ie, lnb's, quad lnb holder, diseqc switch, I would probably be half way to paying for motor set up. Also I would deffo get the full arc where I'm living. So it seem's the best way to mount a motor sys, is on a scaff pole set in concrete in the ground. It provides for easy access should I have any problems?. I hope I'm on the right track ppl.

For me a motorised setup wins hands down. Good point by Hacksat about quicker zapping, but my opinion is if you can get the full arc use it.
The seconds it takes for your motor to move is worth waiting for. Otherwise i think you will regret being limited to 4 sats.Invest in a solid mount, good dish and you wont look back.

If I were going to go for a motor and a good dish, which would you recommend and the best lnb. I have been looking at the one's hacksat suggested, but would also like other ppl's opinions. Does this look any god to ye guy's

    Ps. no offence hacksat.

Thank's m8, I was thinking the same about the diseqc, just needed someone to confirm it. The most sat's I'd be looking for would be 4 with the multi lnb holder. So the reason for the motor is to get a sh*t load of sat's. I'm only watching sly at the min but want to get sport from other sats when sly are charging for the events.

Hey ppl, was thinking about a bigger dish. At the moment I've got a sly mini dish - quad lnb - dm800hd. I live in southern Ireland and was thinking of getting a 1m triax or similar ( as in diff brand ) and I'm looking for ppl's advice on, a motor or 4x1 diseqc switch. I know that I would probably get away with an 80cm dish but then in a few month's might want to go for a 1m so, might as well get it now. The main thing I suppose is, motor or diseqc ?. I've also read about ppl having trouble with the arm on the dish moving in the wind, so should I be looking for a diff type of dish ?. All advice appreciated.
    Red.

Right guy's,I've decided to try open pli, every things going ok until DCC, nothing in the left column, have all 3 connected, d/l cccam 2..2.1.?

    Forget it, re-flashed.

Hey Ten, when you say correct bl, do you mean the bl listed with the image or just the latest bl being 76c, sorry for the silly ?s but I'm sure someone else wanted to ask these too, but were too shy, lol

Hey ppl, I've had a green message flash up on screen twice in as many hours saying, software error and the box has to restart. I'm using Unofficial dream elite V133 DV3 , so I think it's time to change image. Now I'm a little confused and hope someone can sort me. What's the most relevant info I should look for, as in, my own clone box, the bl 76c, sim 201. Can I use any patched image or do I have to use images with only these figures in, ie, do I only worry bout the bl and sim if I use an original image?.

There is a format option under the blue button menu. I can't remember which menu it's under though, sorry.

Wouldn't let me format, it's under Devices manager.

I had to take it back out and, {windows xp only} create a extended drive {do not partition}.

This option not available in win 7.

Took me an age to work out what was wrong.

    I've only got Win7 m8.

I would take it out. Grab the Gpated live disk and format to native linux format (ext3 )
DaiC1's method will probably work but why format a HDD you are installing inside a linux box to any other filesystem.

Will mess with it some more.
    Thank's guy's.

Back again guy's lol. Stuck an old 60gb hdd in the 800 and I can see it in hard drive settings but it wont initialize for me, say's unable to mount hdd. Now I've seen a thread by daveangel but don't understand it. Do I have to take ths hdd back out and format it with my pc ?. I use a usb for EPG and it worked no problem.
