You can delete it by reformatting the drive, but as soon as you put it back in a Mac, it will be recreated. Macs are like that, I had one and could never get it to stop. It really does not harm, just annoying.

    Update --

I found a way to change the slot to boot from using the command line. The files in /boot control which image in which slot boots up. The system uses the STARTUP file, which is a copy of one of the other files. STARTUP_1 is for slot one, STARTUP_2 is for slot two and so on. I was trying to boot Openvix from slot 3 with no luck, so I copied the STARTUP_1 file to STARTUP and the box booted right back up to my working image in slot 1. If you decide you want to try this, I strongly suggest making a backup of all these files first and store them on a USB drive or someplace where you can get to them when you need them.

I have seen this same problem on my Octagon SF8008 4K UHD and have decided it is a signal strength problem. On the screen of Signal Finder, there is a little box under the three bars that says Locked. When I see the pixelation I notice that the green check mark in the box is going on and off, like the receiver is having trouble locking in the signal. This happens when when the signal strength is the same on another transponder that is not having trouble. Also the bottom bar is about errors and most of the time it is a steady 0, but will flash numbers when the signal doesn't lock.

I have managed to reduce the problem by tuning the dish (10ft c-band) left, right on the receiver, and also out at the dish , up and down. Or it could be aliens messing with us!

It kind of depends on your expertise in the hobby in general. I find the most useful features are blind scanning, the ability to organize your channels and satellites, and ease of use when you just want to watch tv. Linux based receivers have the added benefit in that you can telnet in to them and use them much like a typical linux distro. But you don't have to do all of that to enjoy a new receiver.

This forum is a great place to learn and get help, just ask sensible questions and offer help when you can give it. Most common questions have already been talked about, use the search and read, read and read some more!

After using this box for about a month I thought I would try flashing another image. The box came with OpenATV 6.3 and I know there is a newer version. I went to the Recovery Mode under Standby/Reset and the box rebooted. When it came back up, the display said Upt, then stopped on neco. I waited about 30 minutes and nothing ever showed up on the TV, the screen was black all the time. I shut the power off with the switch on the back, turned it back on and the box rebooted normally.

So my question is, do I have to install some sort of plugin or additional software in order to see the Recovery Menu? I tried holding down the front button while turning the power on with the switch in the back and got the same result. See my previous post "Change Multiboot from the command line"

Thanks for any suggestions. :head banger:

Great, I didn't know about pressing the menu button while in the channel list, actually in a bouquet. There I found all the options I was looking for.

Thanks to all for your help!

Good news and not so good news. Following your instructions, first I saw "update" on the display, still black screen. After a minute or so, it turned to "recovery", still black screen. I waited a couple of minutes, then started pressing buttons on the remote, Menu, Exit, green, yellow, blue, no response from the remote. After another couple of minutes the display changed to "boot" on its own, and the box booted back into OpenATV, just as it was before I changed the multiboot to the Define image. I never did see a recovery menu.

So, all is good now, thanks to your help. As I learn more about this box, I'll look into using Recovery Mode and also how to use multiboot for testing other images. Thanks again!

I am feeling my way around this new box, Octagon SF8008, and decided to try the multiboot option. There was a second image already installed, a Define one, so I chose it and rebooted. I got nothing, no interface, the display on the box says no channels. The box is running, I can telnet in and there is a web interface. So I want to either change back to my working image, or get an interface going on this Define image, the only access I have right now is through telnet. I see there is a boot directory with several STARTUP files in it. What is the best way to go from here?

    Thanks

    Hello,

I just got a new Octagon sf8008 and am new to linux receivers, but not to linux. I haven't been able to find an easy, direct way to rename a channel. Am I missing something obvious? By logging into the box from my linux computer, I did find a satellite file, so I am sure the channel lists are kept somewhere. How do most users edit channel names?

    Thanks!

In North America, there isn't much on the Ku band (small dishes) other than Dick/Dave. Have a look at the Lyngsat site for what is available. I ending up with C-Band and GTMedia receivers, which used to be Freesat. If you work at it most of what you see on orby is doable. I got all of my C-Band stuff for free from people who just wanted it hauled off, but I don't have to deal with an HOA.

I have been using an old Chapparal C/KU combo feedhorn with different receivers over the years and it has worked well. I have used it on an 8 ft dish and now a 10 ft dish. The LNBs are mounted 180 degrees from each other and offset about 45 degrees from the mount's polar axis. I use frequencies of 5150 for C Band and 10750 for Ku standard LNB. Polarity is controlled by a little servo box mounted at the box of the feedhorn. It is the same for both bands. I believe here in North America the only circular signals are the pay tv providers, all FTA works fine with linear. The dielectric is used for some dishes that don't have the correct ratio for the feedhorn. Voltage mode I set to auto or to 13/18, either seems to work the same. No need for tone mode, I think it is for switches.

I did try mounting a Ku LNBF alongside the C Band but couldn't get it to work. It must because a few years about, some vendors were selling a scalar ring the would mount them together. Hope this helps!
