Haha...think we all same mate...don't want to fork out big money on a box
You'll only get what you pay for mate in long run
While it's said it's free sharing...this hobby costs...whether it be monitary or by time spent...but all hobbies do
Just one word of warning...don't go and try to save ?50 for example and get stuffed with something that costs ?200+ and it's useless ;) -
You have saved a backup of your image and settings from your DM500s and wish to restore it with with Dreamup.
When you flash an image with dreamup, you will be asked to perform a 'flash erase'. If
you were flashing a normal image you would normally say yes. If you are flashing a backup image, you should say no. When Dreamup performs a flash erase, it erases everything in the /var folder and replaces it with the contents of /var_init so you would lose all your backed up settings. You would have a flashed image but would have to configure everything again (or redo the flash the right way). If you select NO, Dreamup doesn't perform the procedure of replacing the contents and all backed up data and settings are preserved.Enjoy

To flash an image using Telnet
This method will only work with a .img image file.
• Rename the image file to backup.img
• Using your favourite FTP program. FTP the image file to the /tmp folder on the dreambox
• Telnet to your box and type, or copy and paste the following command:cd /tmp && eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp backup.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot
To telnet, click START > RUN >and type cmd. A command window will appear.
Type Telnet ip.address.of.dreambox and press enter> type root and press enter> type dreambox and press enter (if you have changed your password, enter your password instead of dreambox). To backup an image using Telnet
• Telnet to the box and type, or copy and paste the following command:
cat /dev/mtd/3 > /tmp/backup.img
• Using your favourite FTP program. FTP to the box and navigate to the /tmp folder
Here you will find the backup.img file. FTP this to a safe place on your PC.
Dreambox Control Centre has an FTP and Telnet client built in

It can happen if you set up a mount incorrectly on a dm500s
On reboot...it goes into a loop if it can't find the mount
Unplugging the ethernet cable and booting sometimes allows you to remove the mount
Images are tempremental sometimes...and just crash when you try to configure them
Thats one reason why we have this forum...so we can help each other and report our findings for other usersRegards
