Woman, 90, in Dublin court over satellite dish planning breach

    d00ea70152d2a69679c64c1.jpg

A 90-year-old woman has appeared in court in Dublin for breaching planning laws by fixing a satellite dish to the front of her house.

Anne Rudd did not receive a criminal conviction, but she agreed to pay 1,500 euros towards Dublin City Council's legal costs.

She had been given the equipment as a birthday present.

Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny said the case should never have ended up in court.

After Ms Rudd put up the satellite dish at her home on St Enda's Road in Terenure, she received a letter from the council warning her to take it down by the end of June as she was in breach of planning laws.

When she realised the warnings were real she did take it down.

However, that was a month after the deadline and the council took her to court seeking 2,000 euros in costs.

The pensioner agreed in court on Tuesday to pay 1,500 euros.

However, her family have been extremely critical of the prosecution as a poor use of council resources.

In the Irish parliament, Ms Rudd received the backing of Taoiseach Enda Kenny, who said: "Anyone dealing with an issue like that should be able to apply a measure of common sense and not have it end up in court."

Very very nice package mate, would love this, but i would be served divorce papers for even mentioning it

    Good luck with the sale

Hey Guys newb to the forums so please go easy on me.

I have been selling m8 and m8s android boxes to people with a custom build of my own on it. I always check to see if potential customers have sly broadband shield or virgin media virus safe/websafe turned off. Everythings been ok up until today during the United match when I had 3 phonecalls all pretty much along the same lines, two were getting the 50mb package and one was getting the 150mb download package (jammy git) from vigin, all complaining about buffering every minute or so and some links through the updated sportsdevil not working at all. I had the match playing fine on my 30mb pack through Tak Talk but they were getting buffering every minute or so as I was on the phone to them. We had great feedback on the live games link through Phoenix from the facebook page and people on basic internet packages. I also set the boxes up personally and made sure the virus safe feature was off. Does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be, or has anyone had any similar issues with vigin, Id say it was the internet itself but im in the process of changing to Pusnet because i get loads of drop outs on my TT router but even I didnt have issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it stumped me this one.

Are the boxes you are selling purely running from streaming services or from pay server lines for the virgin channels ?

As an example to others you are receiving a 3 day holiday, pay servers / pay server talk / support of pay servers is not allowed here

COPYRIGHT TROLLS ANNOUNCE UK ANTI-PIRACY INVASION

Tens of thousands of Internet subscribers are at risk of receiving piracy settlement demands after copyright trolls announced they are preparing to launch one of the largest ever anti-piracy campaigns in the UK. The new wave of enforcement actions is supported by piracy tracking firm Maverick Eye who work with Dallas Buyers Club and other well-known filmmakers.

So-called copyright trolls were a common occurrence in the UK half a decade ago, when many Internet subscribers received settlement demands for allegedly downloading pirated files.

After one of the key players went bankrupt the focus shifted to other countries, but now they’re back. One of the best known trolling outfits has just announced the largest anti-piracy push in the UK for many years.

The renewed efforts began earlier this year when the makers of “The Company You Keep” began demanding cash from many Sky Broadband customers.

This action was spearheaded by Maverick Eye, a German outfit that tracks and monitors BitTorrent piracy data that forms the basis of these campaigns. Today, the company says that this was just the beginning.

Framed as one of the largest anti-piracy campaigns in history, Maverick Eye says it teamed up with law firm Hatton & Berkeley and other key players to launch a new wave of settlement demands.

“Since July this year, Hatton & Berkeley and Maverick Eye have been busy working with producers, lawyers, key industry figures, investors, partners, and supporters to develop a program to protect the industry and defend the UK cinema against rampant piracy online,” Maverick Eye says.

“The entertainment industry can expect even more from these experts as they continue the fight against piracy in the UK.”

The companies have yet to announce which copyright holders are involved, but Maverick Eye is already working with the makers of the movies Dallas Buyers Club, The Cobbler and Survivor in other countries.

Most recently, they supported a series of lawsuits against several Popcorn Time users in the U.S., and they also targeted BitTorrent users in Canada and Australia.

Hatton & Berkeley commonly offers administrative services and says it will provide “essential infrastructure” for the UK anti-piracy campaign.

“Hatton and Berkeley stands alongside our colleagues in an international operation that has so far yielded drastic reductions in streaming, torrenting and illegal downloads across Europe,” the company announces.

In the UK it is relatively easy for copyright holders to obtain the personal details of thousands of subscribers at once, which means that tens of thousands of people could be at risk of being targeted.

This does seem a pretty good offer dekelster, i will move it to the Bargain section of the forum where hopefully more people will see it and take advantage :thumb:

(24th September) A Liverpool pub supervisor was fined more than £22,000 for illegally showing BT Sport and Sky Sports football matches following a successful prosecution by the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT).

Anthony Tynan, the designated premise supervisor at the Mariner, Whitefield Drive, Liverpool was found guilty on 30th July at Liverpool Magistrates Court of seven offences of dishonest reception of a television transmission (BT Sport and Sky Sports football matches) with the intent to avoid payment of the applicable charge. This is contrary to Section 297 (1) of the Copyright Design and Patents Act 1988.

Yesterday he was ordered to pay £2,000 per offence, as well as a £2,409 Victim Surcharge, £5,689 prosecution costs and a court charge of £520 bringing the total fine to £22,618.

Stephen Gerrard, Prosecuting Manager at the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT) said “This result at the start of a new football season is a timely reminder to the small number of licensees who persist in using illegal systems to show Sky and BT Sport broadcasts.

“FACT’s message to these individuals is, you will be caught and prosecuted. The lack of support provided to the defendant by the third party supplier in this case shows that in reality the often quoted promises to deal with any legal issues do not materialise. If licensees are using a system in their premises that is not supplied directly by Sky or BT Sport then they should seek independent advice.”

This conviction was carried out by FACT on behalf of its members and forms a key part of the industry’s commitment to protect pubs who invest in legitimate pay TV subscriptions.

Alison Dolan, Deputy Managing Director at Sky Business, said: “This successful prosecution is the latest in a long list of cases in the past year. It serves as a reminder to landlords that Sky Sports is only available to pubs and clubs in mainland UK via a commercial viewing agreement from Sky; no other method of showing Sky Sports in licensed premises is legal. The significant fine that the court ordered is a further warning to those who engage in that this type of illegal activity.

“Sky is committed to protecting our legitimate customers. We visit thousands of pubs every season to monitor the games they’re showing, as well as investigating suppliers and continuing to support FACT’s work to investigate those who are illegally and unfairly seeking to gain an advantage through fraudulent means.”

Bruce Cuthbert, Director Commercial Customers BT Sport said “It is regrettable that there are still licensees who are showing live sport illegally and that we have to resort to formal action. We think that BT Sport offers such great value for money that it shouldn’t be necessary for licensees to take any risk of prosecution. We do everything we can to ensure licensees are fully informed of the risk of showing live sport illegally and how they can show live sport on their premises to avoid prosecution.”
