I just read that you are placing the backup file in the /images folder.

Wrong. You need to put it in the root of the USB stick and rename it to _mmc.zip.

I downloaded a clean OpenATV image. I tried flashing it directly in the root directory with the name _mmc.zip, I also tried placing it inside the images folder, then in image, but I still get the same message: “No image found on the USB storage device.” So even flashing a clean image is a problem. I used 3 different USB sticks, and none of them are detected.

go to Menu>>Settings>>Software>> Management>>Flash online

now you should see a list, open the list choose the Backup Image zip, use slot of your choice and install it

As I already wrote above, I know there is a possibility to use the backup directly from within the OpenATV system. But what if the system completely freezes and cannot be started at all? In that case, I would need to restore the backup from the recovery menu, but this doesn’t work for me — it doesn’t find the image.
