I have the 256mb model - Follow the install guide in the sticky to install, and minimise the memory used for graphics. You don't need to use the GUI, as you can do all the configuring from another PC on your network.

I have this running with JSC sports and MTV Unlimited - with about 12 peers - have had 20 peers before now no problem. I Am using a powered USB hub, for which I use as a power supply for the Raspberry Pi - and also to power 2 Omnikey readers for the cards. JSC sports clear locally at less than 250ms and MTV Unlimited at about 575ms - so both better than on what I achieved on the internal reader of my Vu+ Duo with Oscam.

I have heard that cheap SD cards can melt over time, but if you get a good quality compatible SD card class 6 or above you should be ok. You can run it all on a 2GB card, but beware - have only got about a 50% success rate for SD cards that work and stay working on my Raspberry Pi. - google is your freind for this - there are lists around.

The Raspberry Pi does not overheat, and there is no need to overclock.

I can only state how it performs in my situation. I have peers, not clients, so I haven't got lots of people sending me lots of requests all of the time, but bear in mind that Raspberry Pi's are now shipping with 512mb ram as standard, so the new ones will outperform mine.

I have seen this before on Oscam with a couple of peers - it seems to attempt a request that should be able to clear from one of my peers and then it reaches the timeout limit and shows as a timeout from all available cards (peers) - I get the impression that these requests come from an Oscam server and it might have something to do with the way they have it set up - maybe something to do with Cache Ex? not sure, but it is something I have only started to see.

Now, I am not and never was accusing anyone of being a payserver, there are many friends and family servers out there, but I am beginning to wonder if this issue is almost exclusively affecting those who host a sly UK card and have a number of users connected who are relying solely on the one server (friends and family). siri_uk is only one example, but based on previous posts on this thread, the talk is more of clients rather than peers (clients meaning not returning a share, peers meaning are sharing their card back). I suppose there could be a similar affect if one is connected to a server who is running a cache exchange, because this could also create a lot of activity, but I suppose if the this thread does go down the line of those affected giving more details about what sort of server they are running, we can get an idea of the type of operation that sly is targeting....

All I was commenting on is that I have a number of peers who have a sly ukcard as a local, and not one of my peers are having any problems with this issue, and as far as I am aware, my peers have fairly small setups and are not exchanging cache. I am not sure why you feel that I am not able to make a contribution to this thread by expressing what I think, and of course, not having a sly card myself it wouldn't be worth me posting my setup. I am interested in the situation as I am wondering why it is happening, which is why I comment and speculate, and I don't see a problem with that.

Like many things, the only people who will be posting are the ones that are affected, and of the 200 plus posts, the majority are from a handful of members who have posted many posts on the subject, and some of the posts are merely bumping the thread by asking if people are still being affected. It is clear something is happening, but considering it is only affecting a handful of people, as dbxxx said, It would be interesting to hear more about the details of the servers they are running. Being someone who is sharing with a few trusted peers who are running normal setups (as opposed to cache exchange), I am wondering if the people who are affected are running big servers with cache exchange and many clients/peers.

Times are exactly the same today as any other day, nobody i share with has complained about high times either and i did mention this thread to some of them. Strange that some here have problems while the majority seem to be unaffected.

Completely agree. I haven't got a sly card locally but no one who I share with is giving me any high ECMs and this has been the case for as long as this thread has existed. I really don't know what all the fuss is about. I think everyone should take a valium and stop panicing, and enjoy sharing while it is here:thumbsup:
