  • Starview cardshare server busted in Derbyshire

    Three men have been arrested in Derbyshire on suspicion of trying to defraud Virgin Media, through use of a large number of modified cable boxes.


    A Starview card share server, able to deliver subscription cable TV programming for free to the boxes, is also rumoured to have been shut down in connection with with the arrests.


    Anthony Ginnivan, Melvyn Howard and Jong You were charged at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates? Court on Friday, after a police raid at Fernwood Close, Littleover, on Tuesday.


    Prosecutor Andrea Charity said that 44,000 modified cable boxes were said to be involved, though did not state how many of these had been sold directly.


    The busted operation is rumoured to have involved the large scale sale of modified Starview boxes, connected to a Starview server on a subscription basis.


    This would allow buyers to access premium TV content from Virgin Media without having to pay for it. However, they would need to pay the accused a smaller monthly fee to access the server providing the free TV.


    While the Starview server was said to be located in Asia, and therefore outside the direct jurisdiction of UK law enforcement, it appears to have been shut down anyway.


    Detective Sergeant Graham Prince, said: ?We have been working closely with Virgin Media as part of an investigation into TV fraud. It is alleged that this is a key part of an operation to defraud Virgin Media.?


    Malcolm Davies, Virgin Media?s head of fraud and security said: ?We take this matter extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with all the police forces throughout the UK to prosecute individuals connected with this type of TV fraud.?


    Good riddance to more fukn payservers of a different kind, all scumbags inmy eyes!!!

    I think people resort to scaremongering as they have no other way of controling the situation bit like sly, im using 2.1.4 and have done f a while now, think jay was saying other day that if sly card is not set up properly f updates that causes concern!!

    Setup a manual IP address in the bootloader:


    OK, you don't have an DHCP server. That's normal if you don't have a router or configured one by yourself. You don't need to install one, but you need to connect your Dreambox by a USB cable now.


    You need to know which IP to give to your Dreambox. If you don't know which IP to choose, please ask someone who can help you. You can choose any IP which is "near" your PC's IP address, but the IP should not be used by any other device.


    For example, if your PC's IP is 192.168.0.5, you could use 192.168.0.10, unless another device already uses that. In that case, just choose 192.168.0.11, or whatever. It just needs to be in the 192.168.0.x range, where x is >= 1 and <= 254.


    Start your favourite terminal program, for example HyperTerm. Setup your Comport to 115200/8N1. Press the "s" key.


    Now a setup menu should appear. It should look similiar than the screenshot below

    Press the right arrow. You are now in the network setup menu.
    Using "+" or "-" you can set the "Network type" to "manual".
    Now you can enter an IP address in below. Press F9 to save your settings.
    The Dreambox will shutdown.

    Now go back and to the procedure again. "dhcp" shouldn't appear anymore, instead the IP you entered.

    The service will be extended over the next few months to run direct over the PC. Tablet and smartphone-based versions are also planned.

    The Abu Dhabi Media Company (ADMC) is to use conditional access from Irdeto to protect its coverage of English Premier League football.


    According to Irdeto, the deployment is designed to tackle the problem of card sharing piracy in the region by incorporating secure chipsets in the set-top boxes and applying Irdeto?s encryption technology. ADMC will deploy Irdeto?s CAS 3 system with smartcards inserted into HD boxes, allowing satellite TV customers to view matches on the AD Sports (Al Riyadiya) channels.


    ADMC holds the exclusive broadcast rights to the Premier League fro three seasons from 2010.
