i used a laptop and the ping is almost identical. could it be some problem/setting in the router?

I have a s9 and old diablo cam. the openbox certainly reconises the cam ok. long time since i have used the diablo for anything so cant really check whether it works as it has no working codes etc. but i would certainly expect so.

i type into the terminal window ping 192.168.1.1. (the router ip) and the reply is about 260 m/s.
is this a reasonable response time?

just asking how important is the quality of the ethernet cable connecting from router to server.
my router is 30 metres from the server.
when i log onto the server using winscp or putty takes approx 15 secs to log on. (the message "host is not communicating for more than 15secs, still waiting. warning aborting the operation")
and then just logs on before aborting, so taking approx. 15secs.

i have tried a shorter ethernet cable (20m using a more direct route thru the lounge) but the timing is the same.

the server seems to work ok within the house, so, is it important that it takes a long time to log on?

i have a sub to sly entertainment extra with a second card (multiroom) if i update my sub to hd (or sports) will the second card also automatically update as well as the main card??

I understand these channels are usually biss encrypted. where there keys readlily available for these channels.
just wondering if its worth setting my dish up for these channels, dont wont to bother if they are re-encrypted in a few days
